I have just finished week 6. I follow an app which doesn't have a week 9 so I don't know if the runs are different. If they are, there isn't much difference.
Anyway, what I have learnt so far in this programme is to just keep going. I was TERRIFIED about running 5 minutes that first time. I was convinced I was going to fail. A few weeks later, and I just ran for 22 minutes at 7.5km/h. I never thought that would happen. Ever. 8 more minutes and I'll be running for a half hour! That thought is insane.
So this is just a quick blog post to remind you all that you should only bother to repeat days/weeks when you have failed, not before you have tried. Even when you don't believe you can do it, you will be shocked and surprised at how much your body can handle.
I've also recently gone down to a size 14 which is so exciting: my mom bought me a beautiful size 14 coat to celebrate
So, my rules of thumb are: just keep going. Trust in yourself, believe in yourself, believe in the programme. Don't accept excuses and remind yourself that in 8 short weeks time, you will be fitter than most of the population.
Thanks for the advice about not repeating weeks unless necessary. I did W5R2 on Wednesday but as I am away for a long weekend I was going to repeat it before doing the big milestone of W5R3 but what the heck I WILL DO IT next Tuesday.
Marvelous, absolutely marvelous Nikki!! I read your posting here and also followed the link to your blog. I think that both of them are an absolute must read for anyone starting the program!! I can't count the number of times that I have posted, "Believe in the program, but more importantly, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!!" Just as you mentioned in your rules of thumb!!
I also completely agree with your thoughts on repeating weeks. If you fail a run/week, then repeat it, but if you can do the runs, move on!!! The program is designed to advance us. This doesn't necessarily mean that we will be comfortable with our run every time, but is does mean that we are physically ready to move on!!!
I hope that the rest of your weeks go well for you!! You are certainly well on your way!! I look forward to seeing that wonderrful "Graduate" badge beside your name!!
Thank you for your blog, I think that so much of what you said is incredibly sound advice and motivation for all of us!!
