Is 4+mph on the treadmill fast enough to be classed as running?

What speed do others run at on the treadmill? I vary between 4.3 and 4.5 depending on how I feel but am sure this is so slow it is just barely jogging. I am not walking but do not feel I am running properly. Is there a speed at which one can say they are really running not just jogging?

Hi. I tend to do the walking bits at 4mph and the running bits at 6mph. I think you just need to find what speed feels right for you. It's supposed to be a light jog, according to Laura :-)

Yes, definitely! I usually run outside, but the odd occasion I'm on a treadmill I think I set it around 4.something mph or 6ish kmph, because that's what I feel comfortable with. I also set it to 1% incline. As long as it suits you, don't worry what anyone else is doing. Speed can come later if you want.

Hi Dush3003

Sorry for the late response but at the time of this posting I was on week 8. I have now graduated from C25k and run three times a week sometimes doing 30 mins, sometimes more and sometimes only 25 mins depending on how energetic i feel!

Hi,

I'm definitely with you on this one too! But like the other commenters I've decided the important thing is to run at a pace which means you can do the time without stopping and then post graduation worry about slowly speeding it up. I generally run between 4.4-4.6 and definitely feel a difference between the two! While that won't be fast enough to run 3 miles in 30 minutes and I can't really imagine going fast enough for that right now I think it's important to remember there is no way I could imagine running at any speed for 25 minutes a couple of months ago and now I can do that! So I would say just enjoy what you've accomplished this week and worry about the next step when it comes round! Congratulations on getting this far!

I've recently started and have just finished w3 r2. I warm up at 3.5mph, walk at 4mph and run at 5.3mph but upped it today to 5.5mph for a 90 second run. Not sure if I will be able to increase from 3 minutes to 5 minutes for week 4 it seems a big jump. Before starting C25K I could even run 30 seconds!
