Cardiff half marathon

Big sis (the famous 7 times marathon runner) reckons I should step in, take up a friends' place and do the Cardiff half, which is 4 wks from Sun. This coming Sun I am doing my 2nd 10k. Tempted, but a half marathon is more than 21k! EEK! Opinions? It could be the spur I need to stop eating and drinking crap?

Go for it! What's the worst that can happen? That you walk part of it? You'll do it - you've done 2 x 10K after Sunday, so that's the equivalent of a half marathon (practically...). Give it a go. You don't have to win it, just be in it.

I agree, go for it! If only for the experience! You won't regret doing it but you might regret not doing it! Good luck!

If you're just aiming to finish then you can do it with walking breaks. There were 2 ladies just behind me during my half mary that seemed to be running for about 15 mins then walking for 2 and they were keeping a pretty steady pace.

You have 4 weeks so I would just try to get a few long runs in, maybe up to around 9 miles but don't do too much at once. I'm sure your sister can help you if she's an experienced runner. :)

YES! Go for it. If you have to walk some of it it doesn't matter. Just imagine the acheivement! Then you can do it next year with the aim of running for all of it!

29 years ago I thought the newish Great North Run would be a good idea. Hmmm - two and a half hours later, having walked most of the way, I finished. I still have the medal and T-shirt (:->). Those were 20 minute miles so the time was meaningless, but I still have fond memories of that day. Having come back to running through C25K, I'm going to go for it next year - 30 years between entries must be some kind of record!

The point is ... do it. However you get on, you'll have a great day, a new experience, and be talking about it when, like me, you get old. Best of luck!
