Measuring your Distance?

I have a couple of regular walks / runs I do but I don't know how long they are and therefore how close / far off the 5k I am. How are people out there measuring the length of their runs? Thx fellow ex-couchers

Would you like to measure how far you've gone or plan a route of a certain distance ? Two solutions to the same problem I guess.

To plan a route that takes you 5km you can try gmap-pedometer.com/ (there are lots of others).

To track yourself and record your distance then you'll need GPS either on your phone with an app like Endomondo or a dedicated watch that records your distance.

Or a third alternative is to get a copy of Google earth (it's free) and use the measure function to measure the routes you've run.

Hope those suggestions help.

I use endomondo, download it free, or use Google maps and work out your route before you go . Good luck. Pat :-)

...and when you get REALLY addicted and know you're going to carry on this running lark, there are loads of lovely gadgety GPS watches which do everything except make your post run cuppa!

Thanks all, think I'll start with google earth and go from there. I completed wk4r1 tonight so be interested to find out how far I went.

I use geodistance.com Just put in your start address and click on the map. Great for non-smart phone people.

I use the MapMyRun app - I have it set to tell me when I've done a mile/km.

I use the MapMyRun app too downloaded to my phone (where I have my Podcasts) so I only have that to carry (plus some excess weight!!!)

I do this too though I'm still using MapMyWalk as I was using it for walking before i decided to give c25k a try.

I use this to plan my run as I hate carrying anything but my music. Find it useful as you can replan routes as you go if you are trying for a particular distance.

I had to run in Newcastle the other night (due to taking my daughter somewhere) and planned out a 5K run before I went.

Have to say didn't enjoy running around streets rather than my usual country lanes and hills - will never complain about those hills again!
