Ha! You beat me to posting about this by 10 minutes! I'll still deciding whether to join Moray Firth Radio in a Day One launch 5K run locally. I ran my first Parkrun yesterday and don't know if I'm up to another run today - especially a run with a group and in the heat of mid-day (18°C here and that is hot to this cold-house plant!) - I usually run in the cool of early-ish morning.

I'll decide shortly and if I don't run, I'll drag hubby out for a walk in our local woods instead.

Good luck, George and all other 5x50 Challengers

It's hot outside I am sweating like mad now. Felt pretty good at the end though. I ran through some local woods with a massive hill at the end. First 5.3K in the bag.

I'll not be able to run every day, I'll end up broken if I do that.

Well I went and joined in with the locals from JogScotland and Nicky Marr, MFR radio presenter. I didn't get Runkeeper working properly on the iphone my son's GF gave me yesterday, but some of the runners said their devices recorded 3.6 miles/5.8km! No wonder it felt very long! The organisers had to change the route at the last minute and maybe made it longer to avoid the mains roads and make a circuit.

I'm really tired with running 5K+ two days in a row and I'll go back to just running alternate days - this was a one-off.

I'm looking forward to getting out on my bike more frequently. I've been reading about the benefits of cycling as a means of cross-training for running. According to Josh Clarke of Coll Running

"In terms of fitness benefit, three or four miles of biking equals about a mile of running. The real trick is to find a place where you can really push your pace enough to get your heart rate up as high as you would with a run."

If I'm going to the effort of getting my bike out and getting my cycling gear on, I'll probably cycle more than 5K.

I've just checked and according to Nicky Marr's Runkeeper stats, the course was 5.94 km / 3.69 miles! I *knew* it was a long way!

I just joined this just now. Am in Paris and did an 8k walk today. Heading home tomorrow so doubt will have time to do anything but will see. Had running gear with me but it's been far too hot so needed this new challenge to give me structure. Good luck!

It's when we get to day 10 onwards I am worried about.

I did a 5k walk today - it is so slow in comparison to running it! Tomorrow is my scheduled run 1 of 3 for the week. It is quite a commitment, doing the 5x50 thing!!!

Yeah it's a thought fitting it in, I'll run again tomorrow but walk on Tuesday. Try to fit the walking in at lunch and getting off a different bus stops going to and from work.
