I don't notice anything while walking but it comes on now shortly after starting to run. Searching for possibilities it seems it could be a hamstring strain - but there is no sensitivity until I start running - or referred sciatic pain - I often have lower back pain - or hamstring tendonitis - but it seems too low for that. Any suggestions what it is, or more importantly what to do? I'd like to get to 5K but can't run for more than 5 mins now...

does sound like a hamstring and it's best to stop running until it's better. Use rest and ice and muscle rubs or sprays on it or take ibuprofin. I'm afraid it can be a long recovery process so I hope yours isn't too bad
