..... After reading some encouraging blogs here about the Parkruns and having already thought about doing this when I have graduated, I registered with them today, have my barcode and have ordered an ICEtag with the barcode for me and the hubby!
So, I will be all set for my first Parkrun......at the end of October! I'm only on W2 R2!!!
Oh well, nothing like being positive and having something else to aim for I suppose ;0)

That's the spirit, depending on the size of the field of your parkrun there is nothing wrong with going along before you graduate and walking/jogging it, it is so gratifying to see your time improve.
Yes I read that on their website about not crossing the finishing line so the time isnt registered, so thats certainly another option to consider. Its less pressure then until you feel ready but you can still enjoy the atmosphere of running with others and get used to the course. Thanks for the tip AliB1.
I'm whith Deryn61, why wait!! I did my 1st Parkrun when I was doing week 7 and although I have to walk/jog it I think its a great way to start your Saturday morning
I only waited to week 7 as it was the 1st time I'd heard of it
I think its because I want to run it rather than walk or jog which is why my initial thought was to wait until I could manage that. But now I may very well give it a go beforehand!
I too like the idea of starting the weekend with a nice run in the park doggymum! I usually do my Davina DVD on a Saturday and Sunday morning but she can easily be moved to another day!!
I did the same, probably about the same time you did. I run round some of the park where the run is held already although I have a feeling they might tackle all the hills that I avoid !!
I've also booked myself in for the Big Fun Run in Hackney at the beginning of Nov. Figured I needed a goal but have myself a few weeks between finishing the plan and the run in case I have to repeat a week (and to take in to consideration my holiday !!).
I'm now about to start week 6, if I can do it so can anyone - good luck
Go for it! I did my first park run at the end of week 6 but there is nothing to stop you going before hand. It might help to walk the route before hand, it should be on the park run site. Park run is really friendly - we all have to start somewhere so noone minds if you walk a litte or a lot. Don't worry about podcasts just go along and see how far you get
Ooh I might look into doing one, that would be another goal.. How did you get on tonight SBG356? I found it hard work, it was very hot and I always seem to struggle in the evening.. I did it though..
Hi jlow. Yes it was very warm wasnt it and I was also very tired as I woke early this morning but I was determined to go and glad I did. Yes, evenings are a struggle - would love to do it early before work but just cant see that happening somehow.
Just posted a blog about sunny evenings and busy parks...it was a matter of dodging the exuberant kiddies on wobbly bikes and scooters but it was fine really!
Well done on completing W2R2 as well. One more run to complete the week - yey!
Oh, you've all persuaded me to register and I *may* run this Saturday for my W8R2 run, or next week for my final week 9 run.
I've just looked at the results for the local event and it has fast runners! More than half of the 60 runners are finishing in under 25 minutes and all but about 10 completed the course in under 30 minutes!
Dont let their speed put you off swanscot; many are from "proper" running clubs and do this regularly. At the same time you get runners with their dogs, others pushing buggies, some just walk/run it. They say if you think it will take you longer than 50 mins to let them know so you have plenty of time to complete it!
If you register, put NHS c25k as your running club - it is actually there!!
I've signed up and will go along on Saturday with my marathon-running son. He has done the local Parkrun about 2 or 3 times. I ran 4.7km in 30 mins in my W7r1 run on Friday and will try to do 5k tomorrow. , I found NHS C25k on the drop down list of clubs. I may, or may not own up to my real name when the results are posted here next week depending on how I get on
Just back from today's W7R3 run and it didn't go well. I was much slower than the previous run and really struggled to run for 30mins. I ran out of fuel and simply could not go any further. I only went 4.3km in 30mins
I'll try again on Thursday then decide if I'll try a Parkrun on Saturday.
Dont worry swanscot we all get days when we have nothing in the tank. You ran for 30 mins which is great! Dont rush doing the Parkrun, there is plenty of time for that.
That is why initially I wasnt going to attempt it until I had completed W9 and felt more confident. One step at a time...
So I'm going to do the local one as my W2R3... May not be a good idea but if it keeps me running anything's good, right? Sadly it's the last one I'll be able to do for months as there isn't one in my uni town.
