SPEED or not.....

I wanted to try my new shoes out on the treadmill at the gym today so thought I'd have my first bash at the SPEED podcast. Halfway into the warm-up jog, it was obvious that my right hip, knee and foot aren't ready for running or jogging yet so, rather disappointedly, I hopped off the treadmill and thought I'd give it a go on the cross trainer instead. I got the impression my new shoes were better but my feet are still a bit tender in the arches so I didn't want to push my luck.

I always find the cross trainer much harder work than the treadmill but I did find that it didn't hurt my hurty bits so I completed the warmup on the cross trainer. The pace already felt quite quick so the speedy 60 seconds that followed was hard work ! I managed three repititions and had to admit defeat. I wish I could run at the moment - I think I'd have managed that better because you can adjust your stride length and that wasn't an option on the cross trainer.

I'm just going to have to stick to the cross trainer until my pains go away. I may have another go at the Speed podcast on my cross trainer at home just to see how I get on - I'm not beating myself up for failing as I was feeling a bit under the weather this morning anyway (three weeks until I see a specialist, hurrah !!)

I'm going to try out a piece of advice I was given for my feet - freezing a small bottle of water then rolling my arches over it for ice-treatment and massage.
