Is it wise to train for 10K?

After considerable debate of 2-3 weeks, I finally gave in yesterday and signed up for 10K on 18th Nov in Regent's park. Now I am really worried that it's too soon. I have done few parkruns without stopping at a very slow speed (44mins) and the speed does not bother me but my concern is am I too big (5 stones over weight) to run 10k without causing any inury in the long term. Should i wait to loose some more weight before I train for 10k? Any thoughts will be highly appreciated.
