Not posted in a while, lost my dad and kinda pulled away from everything. Anyway I had signed up for the 10k race for life before he went but had only ever run 5k before. I had plenty of time to train but didn’t do much during my grief.
I have in the past three weeks started running again and managed to run 7k and walk the other 3k twice only.
So I have the 10k to do tomorrow and it’s going to 28 or 29 degrees C. Anyone have any tips as to how I can do this in that heat without dieing?
Feeling pretty foolish for signing up for the 10k instead of 5k now ........any ideas appreciated 😁

No tips sorry, I’m a beginner, but just to say you’ll do well because you’re doing it for a good reason. I did the 5k the year after my dad died and ran hardly any of it but I was so proud of myself. You’ll be fantastic and if you have to walk most of it it doesn’t matter, you’re doing it. Enjoy the day and all the emotions that go with it 👍😊
Thanks. Oh I’ll see if I can find a sun parasol, good thinking! Yeah my dad was really stoked when I told him I was going to do 10k this year, thanks for the tips 😁
Sorry to hear about losing your dad. Must be really hard.
You need a hat that covers the top of your head, ideally white.
Someone has mentioned getting one of those stretchy multipurpose things you can wear around your neck or head, soaking it in water and putting it round your neck just before your run. The water evaporates and cools the air around your neck and face.
Other thing is to walk-run. Save your energy and keep enough in the tank to run the final k or half k. And emergency Jelly Babies!
Thanks, yes We were really close and I miss him like crazy. Ah that’s not something I would have considered, I’ll have a look in shops today. Thanks for the jelly baby tip but I really cannot eat jelly sweets, but anything sweet that won’t melt would probably work right?
So sorry to hear of your loss Laine, Dad's leave a very big hole. Take good care. We will be cheering you on tomorrow, enjoy, can't wait to read about it!
Really sorry to hear about your loss - I lost my mum last year and you finally realise the real meaning of the word “lonesome” but he is delighted with your imminent run and you’ll be grand!
Thanks, you too! Yeah it’s like a huge part of me is missing. I’m not sure I’ll be grand lol but as long as I make it to the finish line without dieing I’ll be happy with that!
