Just in case anyone thinks experience helps......

A salutory tale ......

Had a good couple of weeks with the old running. Weekend before last posted my best 5k time at my local ParkRun, managed a minor personal milestone which was good. Then did a 10 mile run in something of a bad mood the next day, at about mile 9 I got an ache in the sole of my foot and rather than stop grumpily ignored it and finished.

Bit achy but not too bad.

Wasn't sure if I was being a bit of a hypochondriac so did a five mile race on Wednesday - its near work and a cross country so its been on my radar for a while. Gorgeous evening, course was reasonably dry and I had one of those runs where everything felt perfect even my foot. Pleasing result, just a perfect evening. Bit sore later.

10k Saturday morning, foot a bit stiff but OK once I got going. Not later though, how many warnings does a guy need?

Spent the last couple of days with ice packs, stretches and orthotic insoles and a huge dose of embarrassment. Not run since Saturday and twitchy already.

Now resigned to an enforced rest period, I am hoping a week is enough....

Lessons learned?

1) I am an idiot!

2) listen to your body!

3) Take care running in a bad mood

4) Most of my shoes are not big enough to accommodate an insole.

5) I am an idiot!

6) 5 miles is a nice distance to run

What a plonker Rodney.

At least it's fixable? Insoles? How do you know to use them or not? How do you know what's happened to your foot?

But such a lot of personal bests and great runs, especially reaching your parkrun milestone :) The cross country 5 miles sounded fab.

How frustrating and annoying for you but you're not an idiot, ( just a little silly ;) )

I am a terrible self-diagnoser! Trouble with running magazines you end of with a slightly hyper awareness I think of all your muscle groups :-) But this was definitely the sole and arch of my left foot.

I expect its all fixable yes, my ego might be a bit harder!

I just hooked the insoles I had done for my running shoes and put them in my normal shoes as I read that alongside the usual RICE based activities arch support where you have hurt it was valuable so thought it worth a go at least.

The cross country was wonderful yes, one of those runs where you feel the last 18 months were worth it just for that day. Still baffles me that I can be so chuffed about coming 102 out of 280! But hey, simple pleasures :-D

Getting really twitchy now, foot not feeling too bad so going to try a loosener tomorrow. Windsor 10k in two weeks as well, I can't be off my running legs too much longer.

Hope that gets better...QUICKLY.

You're not an idiot...you are a runner...and runners sometimes get a little, shall we say, obsessive? (lol...from someone who is insisting on running with a really sore knee right now)

The word of the day (as I'm sure you already know) is RICE....

Good luck...

Deary deary me, those are great words of wisdom

Maybe I should listen to the burning, tingling calf muscles? Orrr maybe

I should ignore it and hope for the best? I'll take note and rest up a while I think! ;)

I'm ordering a foam roller and hoping for a miracle because I am an idiot :D
