just completed my first week two run.Found it quite tough.Had calf pain in right leg during the run but it soon cleared during the warmdown. Should i be worried about it? Im 5' 9'' and 16 Stone so i am carrying a bit of excess weight. i am determined to complete this programme as i used to smoke 30 a day and packed in 6 years ago.

I have issues with my right calf and I'm convinced that it's because I need a different running shoe. I take it that you're right footed? As its our leading leg, we rely on it a lot more, hence more pressure pushing off it consistently. I would suggest that you have your gait analysed and get the correct shoe, which would almost certainly alleviate that problem.

By the way, I'm 25 stone and in the middle of week 7, so you'll fly though this at 16 now that you've taken the biggest step and started!

Good luck!!

Well done on completing the run ShaneM. I wouldn't worry too much about the calf pain. I think everyone experiences a bit of pain when you first start out, especially if you haven't exercised too much before. Try some stretches when you get home as I find these really help.

You've manage to kick the smoking habit which is brilliant, so C25K should be a breeze for you ! Keep it up ...

My calves always ache, they don't hurt as such, they just feel tight. I think it is because I don't drink enough water so I'm on a mission this week to drink a river! :) If by the end of the week I can get out of bed and stand straight Ill know I needed hydration, if not then the hubby gets to do more massaging... I'm in a win win situation really ;)

My right calf is always worse (I'm right footed) and I've had my gait done so I'm wearing some really comfy Asics.

me too, not sure if it's the longer running part or the two day rest instead of one day. I also did it cross country which perhaps didn't help either.

Well done on getting to Wk2!! I had a few problems at this stage, not least as I was carrying excess weight around...I did Wk2 a couple of times, which would have been 6 runs rather than the 3, but that's only because I didn't feel ready to move on and wanted to keep my pace steady. Worth consdering though as you loose those pounds. Good Luck anyway.
