Today was week 11, run 3. (No, I don't think I will count out the weeks forever.) I am still doing the 30 minute runs, but I added a bonus. Before each run (since graduation), I do a 45 minute strength-training session. I go out for my "warm-up walk" already drenched in sweat, which is a bit funny, but otherwise the routine seems to be keeping me challenged and getting stronger.
One thing is doesn't do is make me run faster. At least not immediately. I found it hard to even manage to complete 30 minutes of running at my "slightly-bouncy-walk" pace, and sometimes I don't quite make it. After 2 weeks of this, maybe my body is getting accustomed to the new demands placed upon it, and I got an unexpected reward: a personal best. I ran farther in the allotted 30 minutes than I have in nearly a month (and the one time I managed the same distance, I was rested when I began.) It felt just fantastic to have a solid run like that again - where I felt like I could just go and go.
Then I had another pleasant surprise. I saw a friendly neighbor who I don't actually get to talk with much, in spite of her proximity. She lives so close to me, in fact, that I never run past her house, I am always doing my warm up or cool down walks. But she asked me how the running was going, and was really interested in the C25K program. Somehow, she figured out that I have been running (not walking which is what she might see me do from her window). I guess it is hard to keep a lid on something so awesome and exciting!
