Getting out. Speeding up.

I've been so demotivated recently I've been getting just one run in per week. That isn't going to help me get quicker so I have chosen 2 days of the week where I plan to get up and put running gear on, without thinking, without checking the weather, and run the C25k+ podcast on a fairly dry route. The same route every time. No thinking or faffing required. Then shower, breakfast and go to work. Plan worked like a dream this morning except too much faffage meant not enough hours put in at work today. Still I can have another go on Thurs and see if I can not only speed my running up, but my shower and breakfast too 🙄

Good luck on your new regime. I am a master at faffage so I know what you mean.

It’s the only way to keep up the discipline! Well done 👍

One way to increase your speed is a long slow run once a week adding 10% max to your previous weeks time or distance, sounds convoluted but it is true.

Also, HIIT style runs, 1 minute at 80+ plus effort and then 1 -1.5 minutes at minimal effort also enable you to run for longer and faster without your muscles tiring, also good for jump-starting your metabolism too.

That's pretty much what the podcast does. Despite increasing distance I haven't got faster for ages. Also intervals are faster than a long run 👍

Brilliant BTP!! I can relate to the faffage and not getting enough work done. I like that kit on no thinking and out! 💥 😍

On reflection my mistake has probably been to forfeit the run because there’s not enough time to work, but trialling the morning run no matter what routine is going ok.

Keep going and good luck! 😁❤️

Sounds like a great way to get things moving again! Reducing the number of decisions to as near to zero as possible certainly helped me in the past. :)

Sounds a good plan!! It's so easy to get distracted or put off at times. Faffage is a factor for me too!! Good luck with it Baddie

I wonder if we should announce the discovery of a new medical condition, "Runner's faffage"? I certainly suffer from it too...

Yes! It's a terrible thing to suffer from.

I also have a Masters degree in faffage. Used to take an hour to get out of the door, now got it down to 10 minutes.

That's a result. How?

Um, partly leaving my running stuff in the same place rather than spending 45 minutes hunting round the entire house for running top, leggings, socks, shoes, phone, headphones, money, keys, jacket, scarf, hat. And turning off my laptop, drinking one small glass of water, using the toilet once only and THEN LEAVING THE HOUSE BEFORE BEING TEMPTED TO DO ANYTHING ELSE!!!

Great plan! 🤞🏻 it makes it easier. So tough sometimes to make that final push!

I have a more or less Monday route and a more or less Wednesday route. Not always the same, I decide as I run.

Never any pressure.

Except that I like to round up to "the next km" :) But that bit comes at the end

Excellent resolution. 🎉👏🏼🎉 And clearly it’s touched a chord on here! Wonder what the collective noun for “faffing runners” should be ... ?

Raffers?

I like it! Or perhaps “a raft of running faffers” ... 😄

Great idea, the less thinking the better! I’m doing same route too at the moment, takes out one faff element

Isn’t faffing just a ritual? Look at all the professional sports folk before a race, tennis match or whatever. There’s always an element of faffage involved, I think. I just wish I could run as long as I faff - I’d be well on my way to my HM by now...😉 keep on faffin’ an runnin’, Baddie!👍🏻
