Visit to the doctor....

My poor old knees have been giving me pain and making terrible clicking noises.

On graduating I went to see a doctor who I have to say was flipping useless, ran some text off the NHS web site and told me to take the running easy, No mention of physio or any interest in this wonderful programme whatsoever.

Went back today to see a different doctor and wow what a difference!!!! She was SO enthusiastic and asked me to tell her all about it and send her the link so she could advertise it on the screens in the surgery and circulate the details to her colleagues, She also sent me for an x ray and is going to refer me for physio. Best of all she advised to take Ibuprofen an hour before running but to keep running !!!!!! YAY. RESULT.

So hopefully we will see more people in our area jogging along listening to Laura......

Why aren't all GPs like this????? The resource is free, proven to work, fun and does people good.....we all know its true....

Thats very encouraging! Iam pleased to hear about the ibuprofen as I have taken it after my runs when my calves were hurting. I wasn't sure I should be taking it but the day I didn't, my calf hurt again!

Iam surprised there isn't an advert on tv for this marvellous programme as there have been recent NHS adverts. It works, for heaven sake, so why not advertise it?!

I often see people out jogging and wonder whether they are on the programme. I offer my advice to them too (in my head!) :)

Yes....GP's.....but maybe I just shouldn't get ON that soapbox. Glad to hear you DID get a good one second go around. Even encouraging...

Hope your knees get better....this is all new to our bodies, and they really would like to just stay on the couch...lol. I'm just stubborn enough tho, to stick it out and forge ahead...as I'm sure you are too. Good luck, and good running!

I'm just glad you're still in our club! You're obviously keen if being told you can still run made you happy :)

Welcome back aboard the wagon :D

Glad your GP was good this time around. I've developed noisy knees as well, but fortunately no real pain. I came across this website which seemed quite good in terms of practical advice and exercises: sportsinjuryclinic.net

Good luck!

I'm going to sound cynical but maybe the NHS is worried about the extra workload if this C25K takes off? Can you imagine the waiting rooms full of people wanting to check out their knee, hip, shoulder, ankle, foot pains? Not to mention all of those who are recommended to see a doctor before starting any kind of high impact sport. We know this programme works, we feel healthier, fitter, less depressed etc etc but the NHS has to cope with the fallout, if that's the right expression. I hope I'm wrong and The Powers That Be decide to teach this in schools and print posters and send out a leaflet/email to everybody!
