Oh dear! I am starting this after work tonight! I am fat 56 always tired. My biggest problem is my SNORING which even keeps me awake at night and I know it's because I am overweight. I am so exhausted from waking every hour at night. My poor husband has emigrated to the spare room!!!
Can I do it?: Oh dear! I am starting this after... - Couch to 5K
Can I do it?
Just go out and try it. I remember going out for my first run and being absolutely terrified about it. Will people point and laugh at me? Will I be able to do it? Will I get bored and give up? I even remember thinking "Oh, Christ am I having a heart attack!!??" (I'm only 24!!)
After my first week I began to love doing these podcasts. Yes, it gets harder but it's 100% possible to achieve!
I am due to graduate on Saturday and while I was out this morning, I realised it's like learning to drive. At first you have so much to remember: Breathing, moving your legs, look where you're going... You get the idea. But the more you do it, the less you think about what you're doing and the easier it becomes.
I found weeks 6, 7 and 8 SO hard and I almost thought about giving up, but got to week 9 and something has clicked in my brain!
I urge you to keep at it because you WILL feel better... Probably not right away, because the podcasts are only there to train you. Once you've trained your body, then you'll probably start seeing results. That's what took me so long to learn... That the hard work starts when the podcasts stop! Apparently it takes the brain 12 weeks to accept a new habit, so also bear that in mind.
Good luck!
Yes you can! and Jadeheathfield has the right of it....you WILL feel better...
The highest barrier to achievement (and graduating this program is a BIG achievement) is your mind. Doubt will plague every step in the beginning...but one day you'll suddenly realize, "Hey, I'm doing better!".
Take it easy....don't be afraid to repeat a week if you're not ready to go on....no matter what, you are already a winner...
Iam so with you Iam 49, overweight and a snorer too! I am on Week 4 and have to say Iam loving it! It isn't easy, and iam not a pretty sight, puffing along but I feel so happy to be part of this. I have lost inches from my tummy which is great! Good luck and keep going! X
You can do it! It's really strange as it suddenly just seems to click.
Just take it slowly and like others have said repeat a podcast if you struggle!
Just do it x take it steady and you will find that you will want to do it more and more, it does become addictive!!! you will find that because you are running you won't want to eat as much, just do it x!!! I will look forward to reading your blogs.
Go for it, i always find i have more energy after a run, and it will help you sleep better, and like debssey i dont want to eat so much after a run, except i always have a craving for a peanutbutter sandwich, strange but true!
I'm 57, could never run more than 15 seconds and I'm now on week 6! I may not be losing weight, but I've lost inches and have more energy and stamina. Please give it a try...and even if you feel your try or tries don't always work out, keep at it....I've had to repeat weeks--anything worth achieving is never easy! I know you can do it! (yeah, I'm a snorer, too--my hubby seems to think that it's not as bad as it was...and I'm making better eating choices to work with this new activity...and listen to Laura on the podcast, take advantage of all her tips...go slowly and give yourself a chance, ok?) Give it a go!!!!
I'm 52 and smoked 30-40 a day for more than 30 years. Only quit 17 weeks ago. I'm also carrying excess weight. The first couple of runs, I was praying for the end of the short bursts of running. I can now run 5k, albeit not within the 30 minutes. My weight, which had nudged into the obese range, is now under that and heading downwards.
Of course you can do it and you WILL see the results.
