Who watched the marathon and wanted to be ther... - Couch to 5K
Who watched the marathon and wanted to be there doing it this time next year?
tee hee me!
I've been watching and have a life goal of running the London marathon....
however I can only run for 4 miles so I need to be realistic
I have a habit of getting carried away and I have got a place in the Great North Run in September. That is enough crazyness for the time being!!!
watching in total respect for anyone who would even attempt it
Me too, I'm watching it on sky record and just watched the ladies come through the finishing line, not a red cheek in sight let alone a Ribena face! They hardly seem winded when then slow down and get their red blanket. Superhumans!
That will be me then!
I thought the winner of the men's race all the way through looked like he was just out for a Sunday jog, incredible to think how fast he was actually going.
The mile pace for the last five miles of the ladies race was done at a pace faster than I would achieve if I just went out with the sole intention of a short sprint to see how fast I could go! Its almost inhuman.
I am going to do a half later in the year and if that goes sensibly well I might try for a full 26 next summer.
I watched it, I compared the leading ladies 33 minute 6.2mile to my 45 minute 5 miles and (and then they get faster!!!) and will be just happy if I can finish my halfer in a fortnight. Reputedly one of the toughest courses in the UK (hills!!!)

Yes, I thought about it for a mili second ha ha . Seriously, Marathon no. I am amazed how people are just jogging along and it looks like no effort at all. I wonder if I will ever feel like its easy and does it really get easier, hope so
the Kenyans are so graceful and serene looking, they exhibited no signs of any pain or exertion at any point or at the finish, truly incredible runners!
I was in awe. I usually watch, but had never realised how fast they are actually going before! I'm sure at one point they did 5K in 17 minutes! I would like to give a marathon a go one day but, having had a quick look at a training schedule today, I think I will have to wait until my kids are quite a bit older, so maybe in 5-10 years? I would like to do the Manchester 10K next May though, and perhaps the Great North Run next year or the year after.
i'd love to do it in 2 years or so but i'm only on week 5 and my shins are already buggered!!!! x
I have gone up to London to watch it 4 times (my big sis has done it it three times) and it is the best day out!
Went up yesterday to watch it again. Having started this running lark myself recently, was even more appreciative and full of respect for everyone's efforts!
No it still hasn't inspired me to do it thought! I know from seeing my sister prepare for 7 marathons now how much it takes over your life (if you are taking it seriously), in terms of time and effort as you prepare lol!
Funnily although I am amazed and inspired when I watch it a full marathon just doesn't tick my boxes at the moment.
I watched and was very impressed at how many of the elite runners looked like they had been out for a wee jog as they crossed the finish!! Cannot say that I have any ambitions to do a marathon, I'll just be delighted if I can get to 5K
