Just graduated from C25K for the second time. A quick story behind this and how it probably saved my life 1st time around.
- started c25k in 2020 lockdown, graduating for the 1st time in Sept 2020.
- really enjoyed the running so kept going, regularly doing 3k, 5k and even 10k runs
- noticed in late 2023 that I was struggling with some runs and something didn’t feel quite right
- a trip to the gap suggested angina, follow up ecg, echocardiogram and angiogram in early 2024 discovered 3 badly blocked arteries - meaning a triple bypass in April 2024.
- just short of a year later following cardiac rehab and slowly building up my stamina I have graduated for the 2nd time!
Now ready to continue with my new ( much healthier) life including more running and so grateful that I did c25k the first time around. Without it I may never have noticed the ‘funny feeling’ and could have had a heart attack had the real problem not been diagnosed.
For anyone just starting or ploughing the the 9 weeks of runs then my advice is keep going and keep going beyond. Also notice what your body is telling you and if in doubt get it checked out.
