Cw5k W6R1

So, today was W6R1 and when I was halfway through the 8 minute interval I suddenly pulled a calf muscle. So that's me out for 2 or 3 weeks. This is my third similar injury...last time it was the hamstring. Fortunately I can still cycle on Zwift, so I should retain some cardio fitness. Frustrating.

🍏 Sorry to hear that! Very unfortunate! A physio should be able to give you some good advice seeing this is happening quite often. Are you doing a good warm up before you go out?? Not warming up those muscles and or running too fast may be the problem but best to seek medical advice. Frustrating for you!

Hi, thanks for your advice. This is the second time in my 6 week journey so far. I've iced it and today it feels slightly better. I warm up thoroughly on a bike trainer, I stretch and do some calf raises, and I try to be careful not to go too fast. I was already 9 mins into the running intervals when this happened. I saw a physio last time (hamstring then) who said I'd overstressed the muscle, so I guess the lesson is to do some strength work and to go even slower, on my return.

Yes you are right … strength & flex is key. So glad you had physio advice before. Hopefully you will soon be back in those trainers. Let us know! X

Hello - so sorry to hear! Agree with AA - do see your medical provider/physio to see what you could do to try to prevent similar injury.
