That was the hardest yet. I thought I did 20mins in W5R3 this will be easy peasy - OMG why did I struggle so much? Nice cool morning - had my days rest yesterday. No reason I know of. Very disheartening after feeling like I had achieved masses 😓

Hi! I too found W6R1 really hard, like really hard!! And reading many comments on here so did lots others, so don’t worry. Is it because we focussed so much on that w5r3 run maybe? Not sure, yet you are in good company finding it tough, just don’t let it put you off, keep trusting the programme.

W6R2 was a lot better and I’m shortly heading out for W6R3 so I’ll let you know how that one goes - it’s 25mins so I’m apprehensive.

I had the same problem this morning! I did my w5r3 on Monday. I think I was running faster this morning so the pace was harder? Perhaps a little over confident. On the plus side my calves weren’t on fire after w6r1. Just keep going and hopefully the next one will be easier :)

Because 24 minutes is 20 percent more than 20 minutes.

True but then I didn’t have to run it all with the walking breaks 🤔

True but that is not how a walk/run training programme works. The way the progressive overload works is by gradually increasing stamina by increasing the overall amount of time worked.

Lots of people take walk break while running marathons but they have still completed the full thing at the end.

Trust n the process

Well done! maybe overthinking it, it's not easypeasy but hard for new runners, hydration can be a factor and a slow & steady pace is key.. Your issue is mentioned in the following link..

W6 is a tough week.

When people do the 20 minute run of W5 I used to keep saying “take W6 carefully”, but it feels like being the party pooper when you are on the high of that first long run.

Just slow right down. This is a couple of hard interval runs building up to the 25 minute run, which is what you will do all through W7.

Good luck with the second run.

Thanks - need to trust the programme I guess as it has worked so far!

Absolutely. It isn’t designed to trick you or make you fail but to make you into a runner.

Exact same for me on the first 5 mins run of W6.... thought it would be a breeze too!!!! But we are AMAZING at what we are doing and we can do this... doing run 2 tomorrow so let’s support each other!!! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

I blame the stopping and starting again. I underestimated the energy and mental will power it took to get started again after I stopped!

Hi, I have just come back from my WK6 R1 too and found it ridiculously hard after finding the WK5 R3 surprisingly easy. I felt really disheartened until I read about other people's experiences. I can only say thanks for sharing 😊

Keep going!

Emma.
