Broken clavicle

Good morning runners! Has anyone broken their collarbone? Was wondering how long before I can safely run again having slipped on some black ice yesterday (not running)! Maybe a more gentle pace without too much arm movement. Just an idea of how long you were out of action if you have had the same misfortune.

ps I will seek medical advice when the bone man rings!

Ouch! Oh gosh.

My catch up corner post yesterday, was opportune...and this just shows how very, easy, even when not running , it is to injure yourself!

Folk may have had similar to you, but the only advice you need to heed, is that from your GP or Fracture clinic experts... I believe from NHS NICE guidelines...6 to 8 weeks recovery ... two weeks in a sling...but as said before, the medical experts are the ones who know. They will advise you.

The good news is, that the runs wait...very patiently! My longest time out was 12 week and the runs waited for me:)

Heal soon!

Ouch! I think you will be guided by how your body heals. I have had arm and shoulder problems in the past and thought that gentle runs would be fine - they really weren't. It is almost impossible to keep the area still and stable.

Get better properly and enjoy the runs when you are ready.

Think you’re probably right sadly. Thanks for the replies, just got itchy feet! Never thought I’d actually enjoy the running, did the c25k to stay fit!

You may be surprised - I have returned for my 3rd dose of C25K having fallen off the wagon a few times... The program builds amazing foundations and I have been surprised at how easily I picked it up again. Keep walking if you are comfortable and you will be back before you know it.

I had a Motorbike crash, in 1977. I broke my Humerus and Collar Bone.

The pain, from the Collar Bone was the worst. I couldn't travel in a car never mind run.

Mind you, if you watch MotoGP, they break their Collar Bone, get it pinned, and are out racing the following week.

I'd give it the full six, at least.

(Obviously - I have no medical qualifications so all advice is from experience).

I think you’re probably right! Thanks for your reply. It takes 15 minutes to get dressed in the morning at the moment!

It took the full six weeks when I broke mine after a bike accident. You will be back out before you know it. Good luck.
