Having recently completed C25K I was so looking forward to my running plans. Did a steady 5k on Xmas Eve. Got up Xmas morning and walked down to the beach. Felt a dull ache in my knee. Been out of action since. Not happy. 😡 Will have to see a physio as there is no sign of it improving. So annoying. So frustrated. 😩 Have had a week off work and haven’t been able to step out of the front door. Sorry bout the moan. I need a pick me up. HNY to u all. I’ll bounce back. Xx
Aargh. Not happy. : Having recently completed C... - Couch to 5K
Aargh. Not happy.
You certainly will bounce back Baggieboy61, sorry about your knee, hopefully before long you'll get back to running, in the meantime don't run, I wish you a very happy 2025.
That's rotten luck.
While you wait for your appointment remember to do RICE - rest your knee, use icepacks, put on a compression bandage and elevate the joint. This will help prevent things from getting any worse and can sometimes be enough to sort the problem out. If the pain is stopping you sleeping you could try taking painkillers, paracetamol or ibuprofen, before you go to sleep if there's no medical reason you shouldn't.
Get well soon and have a happy New Year
You will indeed be back... get that knee sorted and we and the runs will be here waiting for you.
2025... will be your new beginning... x
🍏 SO sorry to hear this but we know you will be cheering everyone one else on while you wait it out on the injury couch.. take the opportunity to recharge, read up on running and relax! Some physiotherapy will soon get you going again! Happy New Year! 🥳
hope you get better soon , take care and a Happy New Year to you and all other members
It’s frustrating mate for sure. I’ve had to redo C25K three times now, but each time I’ve come back stronger. It takes a good few weeks to lose the base fitness you have built up and one week off isn’t going to have any significant impact. Just look after yourself and listen to your body and don’t rush back. Been there done that and regretted it. Hope you get back out there soon. HNY!
Hi Baggieboy61, that must be so frustrating after all youve achieved but dont let it put you off too much, I hope you get a quick recovery and get back on it, Im sure you will.
I've had physio for a back injury - and in fact it was the physio who then recommended C25K. After I graduated I then got a musical injury and immediately had to stop running for six weeks and then build back up in one minute increments. I was lucky in that I saw a private physio the first time and then almost instantly got an NHS physio the second time, because I was already seeing them for a rotator cuff injury and was able to "tag on" my muscle issues. I followed what they said to the letter and tho I am only running a couple of times a week on average now, I'm doing gym strengthening work too, and so am fitter overall.
What I'd say is never underestimate the warm up and cool down exercises before and after running. If you are running for an hour, warm up and cool down; if you are running for five minutes, exactly the same applies.
And take the physio's advice really seriously. My first physio talked about where I was on the day that I saw him; he talked about where he'd like to get me to; but he also asked where I'd like to be. And that was fitter than I'd been before my back injury, in order to come back stronger.
That's the key lesson, I think: it is super frustrating to have done C25K and then hit this wall. But your guts and determination got you through that amazing achievement. Because of that work you can come back stronger. Think about (and ask for advice about) making the joint and the muscles around the joint stronger post-recovery. You'll bounce back from this and be stronger than ever.
Good luck! (And Happy New Year!)
Argh....sorry to hear your news. No worries. Running will still be there when you are in tip-top shape to continue...
Hi and HNY to you, sorry to read of your frustrating news it’s always been a fear of mine that after you put in so much effort you then suffer an injury which wipes it all out! Fingers crossed you’ll not be off for too long and will be back out there in no time achieving amazing things. Best of luck!
Really sorry to hear this, and all the very best for your recovery. And hey - you've smashed it once, you'll do it again! 😉
