Why not try this twelve week consolidation and strength training plan to help reduce the possibility of injury - and which you can super charge your running.
Hi. I completed the C25K plan this morning and would love to have a badge.Up until this September I had never done any running but I'm a keen walker and reasonably fit. My first run seemed impossible. Those 60 seconds felt like hours. My lungs were bursting and I couldn't believe I would ever complete the week, let alone the program. Since then, I've learned to run slow and steady which made all the difference.
Now that I've completed the course I'm wondering which way to go. I like having a structured program to follow. I've thought of the Stepping Stones or Nike Run Club. I've also downloaded an interval timer app and may try Jeffing to see if that suits me. I'm really worried that I'll loose my motivation over the winter when it gets icy and slippery outside so I'm relying on all of you to keep me on track. I should probably join a gym and use the treadmill but I think gyms are so intimidating with all those super fit people.
Congratulations to you, very well done! You sound like I did right at the very beginning…lungs bursting and feeling like the next run would be impossible but here you are!!
Already planning what you’re doing should the weather get tricky, you just have to pick your day, I’m sure you’ll stay motivated…for now though, consolidate all your hard work over the next few runs and then maybe try something new…
Hi. I purchased a running pad. Wasn’t expensive. It will get me through the winter when I can’t get outside. It’s a basic model but it does the job. It has time, distance, speed and calories. Plus it has Bluetooth and built in speakers. Job done.
Last run finished this morning (my post last week had a typo on week and time - I thought I had more left to do!) . Earlier this year I couldn’t even put my own socks on due to injury so am pretty pleased and also grateful to the osteopath! Third time completing this programme , gave up running once due to life and second time to a non running injury so here’s hoping this is third time lucky. Am just in time for the Queenstown marathon 10km next week, will mostly walk but may also do some 5 minute walk run intervals and see what I get done. It’s just something to do while my partner does the marathon. And next year I can aim to run the whole 10kms. This group has been great for support and advice. I’d love a badge!
Fantastic!! Well done you! And you already have some goals…your plan sounds like a good one…you could poss combine the marathon with one of your consolidation runs? A few of those will keep you running & heading towards taking your running further…great work!!
Hi, I finally completed the programme this morning, some 8 months after first starting it! I really didn't think I'd ever manage it, but while I'm still a (very) slow runner I'm glad I manage to resist the urge to give up and press on to the end. Hopefully I'll now keep up the habit.
And we are proud of you for not giving up!!! Some people take 9 weeks, some take 9 months.so what??? It’s not written in stone, it’s a guide..good for you for sticking with it, gritting your teeth and getting on with it..super proud here x
Hi! I finished the Couch to 5K on the 1st November. Very proud of myself Would love the badge.
Would also be good to understand how to unlock 'Beyond Couch to 5k'. I can't find an update option for the app so can't figure out how to access the extra runs. Cheers!
Oooooh pin me! Pin me! I completed the C25K journey 2 weeks ago and have been trying to keep up running 2-3 times per week ever since. It's been a bit tricky since it started getting cold, I'm not gonna lie. but I fully intend to get back to it next week! I love this program - it really works!
Pinned!!!! 😝 set backs such as cold/flu etc can really take it out of you so you’re right to step back till your feeling better….consolidate your runs when you can & then possibly move on..but only if you’re ready & you want to ..well done
Just want to say a massive thank you to all people who post here! I’ve not written much before but I read a lot of posts and have found them so helpful! 🙏👍😀it’s taken me from last March to now to complete the “nine” weeks due to a couple of re-starts because of chesty coughs/colds. It’s been a slow and steady journey, having done some weeks several times, but I’ve actually done it!! YEAH!! I’ve graduated - sounds so good! And it’s been such a pleasure, it’s a lovely feeling to be able to run for the 30 minutes. I’m nowhere near 5k but that doesn’t matter, just happy to be able to move!
I will carry on running. love being outside and am blessed with some fab parks to run in. It’s done my health and well-being no end of good and am so happy I found this programme! Thank you all!!
Congratulations on graduating and you'll see your shiny new badge next to your name
Many of us take longer than 9 weeks, the important thing is that we are committed enough (and hopefully enjoying the running enough) to keep at it and complete the whole C25K program.
Similarly, 5k is a separate goal from running for 30 minutes. If you have a beautiful place to run in and you want to try to go a bit further I'm sure you'll achieve this too, in your own time.
Well done and we all look forward to hearing about the next stages of your running progress
I will certainly carry on the running, it feels so good to be able to do it! I’ve just turned 70 this year and it’s been a great inspiration to read on these posts that I’m by no means an oldie here. If’s fabulous to read that so many older people are enjoying keeping well and healthy!
What I’ve found most useful is the encouragement to take it slow and steady and also the prompts to warm-up and -down properly - I’ve followed the extra little video routines included on the site religiously and so far no injuries! 👍😀
I’ve been a bit reluctant to post anything before, a bit shy about “social media” really 🙄😂, not my thing usually, but I’ve also felt a bit “bad” for not doing it as I’ve found other people’s questions and writings so useful myself during these weeks! So I shall try and get going with some posts from now on 😀
