GRANDAD’S DAY RUN

so those that know me know that I usually run on the anniversary of my mums death as A tribute to a strong woman that couldn’t beat cancer like many others. Today I ran in memory of the loss of my Dad 31 years ago at the young age of 58 and also for the celebration of life of my wife’s Dad on this day two years ago. So I ran a non stop 5k which is what I aim for any thing less even if I ran is seen by me as a failure. Time today for my one run a week on a Thursday was completed in 30.10 minutes over the moon getting back to the 30 minute mark that I achieved regularly prior to my injury in March 2023. I was informed by my kids that today is now know as Grandads Day as result they had received good news. Hope everyone is running well, is healthy and enjoying their success. Just for the record my running mojo is still not back but I guess I am getting there.

A very inspiring post from you Papillion17, never use the word failure on this forum, so if you do run less than 5K that's not a failure, I like the 3K distance as what I call a "maintenance run", even in snowy weather, very cold and wet weather I will run 3K, that's good that your children call today *Grandads Day", congratulations on that 5K, in a very good time too✅🏃👍

can’t see my reply to your post AlMorr did reply I do set high standards and to me less than 5k is not a success to me. Less than 5k to others is and maybe a great success but 5 years of running finding it late in life 5k is my target on all runs. Getting out, running and getting back I can’t deny is a great success.

well done Papillon17 , you may not have got your Mojo back but I’m sure it’s just lurking round the corner waiting for you to run and find it. And doing these 5k runs , it won’t be too long before you’re reunited. Fabulous tributes to all your loved ones too.

thank you Razouski, will continue and see what we can achieve and aim to get back below the 30 min which I was achieving regularly before the world was engulfed with Covid and my calf injury.

A fine tribute to your parents.... and a huge milestone for you...getting back so close to that 30 minutes.... just wonderful.

You have had quite a journey with your running. That calf injury. I remember, hampered you a fair bit!

Huge well done to you!

thanks Oldfloss yes set me back a bit to having to start from scratch but the experience from doing C25K the first time was that I could do it just had to do it slower this time and take advice from the medics so that it doesn’t reoccur although there is a higher probability that as it’s happened once there is more of a likelihood that it will occur again. So will carry on doing the 5Ks and see how we do.
