Seven and a half weeks ago, having reached W8 of the programme, I tore a calf muscle (quite badly I am told) whist running around the playground at work. Following much discomfort, hobbling around and the help of a fantastic physio, I am slowly beginning to believe that I will run properly again and the elusive graduation badge that I so desire will one day be within reach! I have learned a lot about strength and flexibility over the last few weeks, how to cross train and look after my body, so that it will do what I ask of it without breaking! I have learnt to do squats and I am surprisingly good at them for a woman of a certain age! (50). I have learnt to skip again! Started back at the beginning of the programme on the advice of physio and am now on W2, but hey, I'm back out there at 6am in the morning and it feels GOOD! Injured tear, so far so good.
Just want to say to anyone else stuck on the injury couch that however frustrating it feels right now, the return (however long it takes) is a sweet sweet feeling!
Happy running!

Good for you Sandra for coming back again. You sound committed and in control now! I've been thinking of starting to skip too as its great exercise for runners. Did your physio advise you to do it?
Yes, she did. I apparently need to fill in the muscle where I had the tear😯 so need to work on my calves, including calf raises but she said skipping would also help. Just a few minutes a day at moment but I hope to progress to weighted handles to improve upper body workout. (Honestly, this makes me sound fitter than I actually am, but one day eh?!)
Thanks Poppy - although I never really left this forum. I have continued to read the inspiring posts on here, which made me more determined to get back to running. And also all the very amusing musings which have kept me smiling. I have also tried to post a few replies which I hope have supported others. What a great place this forum is!
