Spectacular disasters - only for fun

What has been your most spectacular disaster when out for a run?

I was running on a very narrow track between two fields on a cold, dry autumn morning. The autumn leaves were crisp and dry and completely hid a tree root that crossed the path. I went flying, landed flat on my face but kept sliding on the leaves in a superman pose 😂

No harm done and chuckled the rest of the way home, it still makes me smile.

You might enjoy this week’s Women’s Running podcast which has a “wall of shame” feature where people share their embarrassing moments. I was literally laughing out loud when I listened on my last run.

My most disastrous run ended in an and e when I kicked a drain cover and fell over. I sprained both wrists, both elbows and banged up my chin and knee. Luckily my favourite leggings survived and there was no permanent damage!

Oh gosh!! My disaster... not my fault... a white van man., ( of whom many are just wonderful ), who deliberately veered into a huge puddle and half drowned me... I was drenched..

Hope you were okay after the dive!

Without going into any detail, the run where I realised it was a good idea to use the loo before a run

Oh no! I was going to post about something similar. But mine, thankfully, was a very near miss!

Like I said, not going into detail ;) 😂

I think my recent accidentally ending up in the Amazon without the necessary machete (aka getting lost in a local Forestry Commission plantation) was one of mine...

Shoes coming off in peat bogs...

Google disappearing over high dry stone walls after rabbits...

Brambles running after me and grabbing me by the ankles and throwing me to the floor...

I may have been there with you - several very similar experiences...

LOL 🤣 Great post!

I’ve not had any spectacular misses, I think.

But getting stuck in ankle-deep, shoe-removing mud patch was probably one of mine. It just fascinated me that a mud patch on a sloping hill could be so deep!

After I graduated 5k, I thought I'd better buy some proper leggings. Spotted the ideal pair of running capris in the Lidl middle aisle at the bargain price, £4.99. I wore these (and washed them) 3 times a week. After about 2 months, they felt a bit loose, and I convinced myself I was losing weight - yay! 🎉The truth became evident on a run & I was 2 miles from home...the leggings began to slide down at a rate of knots. I pulled them up, but a minute later, they were sliding down again.

The only remedy was to grab the waist at both sides and hold them up. It was a very strange running form, and I'm sure fellow runners and walkers were wondering what was going on, but I needed to spare their blushes (and mine).

It was he longest 2 miles of my life, (and the leggings went in the bin)

And another one that GoogleMe reminded me of, again Forestry Commission, a Sunday run and feeling great, flying along the tracks, no traffic, a beautiful day only to realise I was totally lost, dead end and the only way out was the way I had come in, uphill for 4km... oof!
