I think I might be back

Completed 15 min run following four month break and was shocked to find my legs could still do it! Probably more importantly, my mind was still able to ‘get me out there’. Need to follow up with another run today. Still in bed but, although reality beckons when I get up, I’m sure I can still do this today. It’s great reading everyone’s inspirational achievements on here and I use them as added fuel to my running. Thank you for posting 😊

Fantastic! Great to see you here. Have you got a plan for building back? Getting that first one done so you’re a runner who ran a few days ago rather than months ago is so important psychologically!

Some people like to use couch to 5k again. I tend to do fifteen minutes every other day for a week, then add on a little, and keep doing that until I’m back in my stride again. When you’ve had a break, you’re more vulnerable to injury so making sure you’re not pushing too hard and keeping rest days is important. Adding in some strength and flex can help keep you off the injury couch too.

Good luck to you!

Thank you for the tips. I have no plan but the route you’ve explained sounds good. I’ve always struggled to run for any length of time and around 20-25 mins is my maximum, which I know will take me a while to get back to. Just need some consistency back 😊

If you can do two or three runs of any length regularly, you’ll find that consistency puts you in a really good place. Once you’re in the headspace of “I’m back in the habit now” you’ll find it just gets much easier. If you enjoy 20-25 minute runs, there’s no rule to say that that can’t be your usual run length that you aim to be doing as your max. I love a twenty minute run.

Thank you. I’d love to do 5k but in 2 years of trying, haven’t made it yet. I’ll keep going and who knows, I might get there before my 60th in December! Day at a time at the moment!
