2024: W30R1 - Shorter trip today in -10°C

After a hectic week and lack of sleep, I didn't want to go out into the cold today. Thoughts of how nothing would happen if I "missed one time" raced through my head.

I'm back on my old path again :-).

A strong icy wind was blowing above, I felt like I had a painful metal face.

I finished listening to the third Foundation audiobook by Isaac Asimov, trying not to get lost in the complex plot.

I'm glad I didn't give up running today.

How it will be this week is not at all certain.

I probably won't be able to run on Friday. So we'll see. :-)

Happy running! :-)

🍏So proud of you for braving that temperature after conquering the stay at home demon! Well done!! You describe it exactly a painful metal face! In those kind of temperatures I have to use a Buff. Amazing how once you get going, how quickly you warm up. Fab distance too and a good book to accompany you! Great run!!!

The buff is a great idea, I just don't think it would be enough this time. I'd rather have a full face hood and glasses. A cold wind blew on the hills. :-)

Thank you so much for all the wonderful encouragement.

It may not look like it, but they are very useful! Thanks a lot! :-)

Well done! I can’t imagine what it would be like to run in -10. I would love to try (suitably dressed). I actually enjoy running when it’s cold (my heart rate is lower); but -2 I think is the coldest run I’ve done. Should have worn a buff, my jaw froze! Felt like I’d been to the dentist and had a local anaesthetic!

I know what that feeling is like - the “it won’t matter if I missed this one ” thought. I think we’ve all been there! And we all have different ways of dealing with it. I always put my running clothes on as soon as I get up if it’s a running day. It makes it easier to get out there! The thoughts change to “Well I’m dressed for running now, I might as well go!” 😊

Exactly! I do the same with clothes!

Only this time I waited because the temperature was supposed to rise. But in the end it wasn't like that. So far, it's still going down here, so I'm curious about tomorrow. :D

I find that it runs better in the winter than in the heat.

And I also discovered that shorts over jogging pants are not only an embarrassing fashion, but very practical in that my ass doesn't freeze :-)

I have experienced this in the past and it was terrible :-D

I faced the internal pressure that it looked stupid: So what, I felt really good. Breathing also good (strictly only through the nose).

I don't want to go anywhere tomorrow anyway because of the cold, so it will be a challenge again :-D

I see lots of men running here with shorts over running tights. Usually younger men. I saw a few in the café the other day. Actually, I might do the same myself if it gets any colder here. I don’t think it’s an embarrassing fashion at all!

Oh, you breathe through your nose. I guess it minimises cold air intake.

I much prefer running when it’s colder. The heat makes my heartrate shoot up!
