Another wet day but my first run of week 9 went very well. We resorted to using my boyfriends watch timer to time the run rather than the app due to the rain. I did try putting my phone in a plastic bag to protect it, but it would not register me touching the screen so gave up on that.
Double and triple checked I had the correct time for the run although being the last week, it would have been difficult to get that wrong.
The main downside of using the watch, we don't get any feedback on the progress. We also went a slightly different route today so I could not even judge from previous runs. We switched at about 2/3 of the way through to a less busy street so we did not get splashed by the cars going through deep puddles.
When my boyfriend slowed down, I thought he had cramp or something, and was pleasantly surprised when he said that we had finished. Although tiring, I thought there must have been a few minutes left at that point so could have probably gone a bit further.
I am really amazed at how well the C25K is going and how much better I have felt lately. At the weekends, after our dog walk we often go to a dog friendly café for a coffee and cake. I have cut down on most of my unhealthy treats such as chips, crisps and chocolate bars but one day a week a cake cannot hurt (too much!).
While in there this week, a woman who used to see a lot when walking Oscar came in (without her dog). She helped me get a job a while back and when I had thanked her, she said "No problem, us middle-aged fatties need to stick together". I had not realised that was how people saw me. That comment prompted me to make a few lifestyle changes, the C25K being one of them.
As soon as she saw me she came over and said she hardly recognised me as I looked so good. (She may need glasses!! ). She then looked at our dogs sitting under the table and said "Oh how sweet, I would love to bring my best friend in here but he will not sit still, I think he needs to be castrated". (One point I need to make here is that she refers to her dog as "My best friend", I am not sure if its his name, she only says "Oi come here" or "Oi, stop that" when I have seen her before).
She then sat at a nearby table and says in quite a loud voice " I went to see Suzie last week" (Suzie is a woman who has another of the pups from her dogs litter). "When we came out of the kitchen, we found my best friend humping his sister in the lounge.". At that point my boyfriend nearly wet himself laughing. As he then pointed out, everybody in the Café could hear the conversation, but only we knew that "Her best friend" was her dog. He said the expression on one of the others patrons faces said it all. She is a lovely lady, but my boyfriend recons she is as mad as a box of frogs!!
Two more runs to go!!
