Started, stopped, started again!

Having got to W2R1 few weeks back I strained an ankle and had to take some time out from running. A a couple of weeks I started again and did a W1 run again two Saturdays in a row. Today I took advantage of a day's working from home to fit in a run in what is usually my commuting time. This time I managed W2R1, and though my ankles and knees are still complaining a bit (as well they might after years of idleness) it's nothing like last time. I'm going to carry on taking it slowly, but am feeling positive after today and confident that I can keep progressing.

Welcome back and well done for joining us again!

I know you will have checked out the pinned post on a guide to rum C25K...a nd there are for those twinge-ing ankles and knees, loads of support on the S and F Forum...

E,g.

nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/r...

healthunlocked.com/strength......

It is well worth making sure that as you begin again, you support those running legs and your running body...

Take it slow and steady and gently too... and to keep posting please. We shall watch your progress:)

Thanks! Those foot exercise tips look really handy, I'll try them out. One thing that's really encouraged me to keep going is reading this forum, being inspired by other people's stories, and by the really supportive community that I see here. I'll definitely keep updating.

well done  BadatGames ..you’re doing just fine…no one says it HAS to take 9 weeks & nobody said you can’t repeat a run..the programme is there to be tweaked as and when it’s needed…so keep on doing what you’re doing and you’ll get there 💪

I'm recovering from a sprained ankle, which seems to be niggling my Achilles! How long were you out for? Mine has been almost 3 weeks now and I am itching to get back out there, but know I need to wait until I am fully recovered!

In my case it wasn't an actual sprain, more I think putting strain on muscles that hadn't been exercised that way for many years, but I didn't run again for about 2 and a half weeks, and then went back to square 1. I'd hoped to try again sooner, but I waited until I felt comfortable and was confident that running wouldn't just make the problem start again. Even then, my first run left me rather limping home, but since then things have got better. I'm currently running weekly, partly not to overdo it, and partly because it's harder to find time in the working week, especially with the days drawing in. Be patient, and I hope you get going again soon!
