White Rabbits ! October is here!

Welcome to the latest chat thread for graduates!

Hello!

Now, you did not expect to find me here did you? YOU thought I was sipping smoothies and eating croissants in Catch Up Corner. But here I am, and am hoping I can handle this is well as MissUnderstanding does!

So! If you’ve finished Couch to 5k, come and say hello,

This is the place for you to share how your runs are going and to get inspiration, encouragement from others, and maybe share your own tips here too? Plus... it will be perfectly fine for you to pop in here, if like me, you are a Graduate returning, however slowly, to the running fun:)

⭐️First things first

How has your running been this week? What sorts of runs have you been doing? Successes, or setbacks? What are your plans for this brand new week?

I’ve had a good week, very satisfying! I’m trying to get my three runs a week in...Sunday, Wednesday and Friday... repeating C25K right now... for the umpteenth time but enjoying it... slow and steady and really soaking up the first sights, sounds and smells of Autumn! I have upped my daily exercise a tad too, to support the runs! If things do not work out, I am trying not to worry about it; just to adapt to whatever has happened.

Although I am repeating Couch... I do feel okay about being here, because as a Graduate already, I am using this as my plan for moving forward:)

So we need to know...I need to know, what are you all up to? Have you a plan in mind... are you consolidating, if you are, how are you choosing to do that?

Do tell...:)

Now, because I am doing this for the first time... I need to think about the weekly challenge ! I forgot about this...So, I thought to kick us off , I would set a fun challenge... and it IS running related! Just for fun!

⭐️ This week’s challenge: Eeek!

What is the scariest thing, or the most unnerving thing, that has happened to YOU on a run...?

I have had a few surprises on runs, but the most nerve- tingling, was one on a trail run in Derbyshire! Here is the link to my post.... it still gives me goose-bumps!

Looking forward to your replies..... I think...!

P.S.

Just a reminder too !

Consolidation.

You’ll almost certainly have heard people talking about taking some time to “consolidate” after graduation. This isn’t compulsory but it’s a really good idea. When you have increased your running distance or duration over a few weeks, it is good to pause and consolidate for a short period, bedding in all that effort and getting ready for whatever comes next. That just means not continuing to build the distance or setting out to get faster for a little while.

It’s a brilliant time to just enjoy your running. Without having to increase duration week on week, you can take the pressure off and have some fun! You can run somewhere beautiful and new. Forget about pace! Mix up your run times. Go up a hill! While you are consolidating you are also helping to establish the habit of running in your life. It is said to take twelve weeks of changed behaviour to create a new habit, so a three-week consolidation will get you there!

I will put the detailed information link on here too, for anyone who is joining us for the first time this month.

Hi Oldfloss and running friends, I’m happy to report that I graduated C25K again at Parkrun yesterday, which coincidentally was my 100th Parkrun 🏃‍♂️ I received a lot of support while running round from my Parkrun friends, then celebrated with a lovely lunch at a newly-opened local restaurant! 😋

I’m going to consolidate for a few weeks, as I haven’t reached 5K yet. I’ll be taking part in the Great South Run in a couple of weeks, though I’ll mainly be walking once I’ve got up to 5K. I’m looking forward to it and it’ll probably be my last ‘organised’ event (other than Parkrun) for the year.

Oh YES!

I was thinking about you...very, very well done. Gosh ! What a comeback...you are an inspiration to so many of us, including me !

Recovering from your heart attack is enough in itself but you have made progress in so many areas too! Our running friends need to catch up with your progress! Thank you for sharing this with us and take t gently towards that wonderful GSR ! x

First park run completed

I've been doing consolidation runs for the last 3 weeks and decided I'm going to do another two weeks. Completed my first park run yesterday and a slower time than on the running machine. It's quite a,challenge gaging your own pace without a machine.Still, I'm loving it and have found the advice on healthunlocked invaluable.

P.s had a leggings malfunction that kept creeping down. Don't like using a phone holder on my arm. Need to suss a better way of carrying a car key and phone.

Any suggestions?

Thanks guys

Hi Herbpie glad you’ve done your first Parkrun! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ You could try a Flipbelt to hold your keys and phone. I’ve got three, in different colours!

I hope you find something that works for you 🤞

Huge well done to you! Yes... so different when you hit the great outdoors but amazingly wonderful!

The legging hitch sounds a bit risky! Are you losing weight or just streamlining:) The flip belt, I second...mine was from Amazon...I am about to look to get a coloured one now!
