Morning folks

Few more questions about this,

It's my first park run this Saturday and very excited.

However, whilst I can run 5k in 30 mins, I have only ran outside once before as I just love the ease and convenience of my treadmill.

My questions are,

Should I listen to a guided run? CT5K? Or do a recovery run and chat with my friend?

Clothing? Layers and wrap long sleeve top round waist if not needed?

Do I print the barcode off and scan that?

Getting my pace without being on a machine is going to be a challenge.

Can't wait, just finished my fast run (Fartlek) on W3 NRC this morning, whoop whoop.

Whatever else you decide, DO NOT FORGET YOUR BARCODE!

I found that although when running by myself I always have something to listen to, at Parkrun I actually liked running without noise, so I could hear the encouragement from the others all along the way.

For the last couple of weeks, although it has seemed quite a bit cooler to start with, I soon warmed up and was glad I had kept to my short sleeves and shorts. It is quite common at my regular Parkrun to see novice runners stripping off part way through, and going back later to collect their discarded clothing!

Re pace - just run however slowly you feel comfortable and don’t try to keep up with anyone else - the tail walkers will always be behind you so you will not be last home!

And don’t forget, you do not have to run throughout the 5k, so feel free to slow down to a walk if/when you want to.

And do enjoy yourself, it is a great place to be!

Hi Barbie, Parkrun is a great place to be, the biggest problem I have found was running at my own pace, because running in a group tends to pull you along too fast, so don't go too fast at the start, I have a watch that shows pace per km, and use that to control my speed (which is slower than yours), over 4 weeks, I have improved my time by 2 minutes, from 41 to 39, so my advice is to just go along and enjoy winning at life 😀

I wrote this post when parkrun returned after the pandemic. You might find some useful tips.

Thank you, It seems a bit dated now with the Covid precautions but going by what is happening in Surrey we could be aware of it all again soon .

You can also take a photo of your barcode on your phone, in case of scanning problems.
