Trapped Median nerve

Has anyone suffered from a trapped median nerve ? Sadly I woke up with mine nearly 4 weeks ago , pain in my shoulder and upper arm with pins / needles in my thumb and index finger . Doctor has given me pain relief tablets and exercises to do that are helping , but as a newly graduated runner happily running 5Ks I’m frustrated as the jogging up and down motion is causing too much pain to run.

I’m listening to my body and stopped running when I’ve tried to run, but I’m just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how long it affected them . The doctor wasn’t able to give a timeframe because everyone is different ( have I just answered my own question🤷🏼‍♀️) .

Cheers

🍏So sad for you! Yes you have answered your own question but it will be interesting to hear from anyone else who has this condition. Rest up now… the runs will wait for us ( I too am waiting to run again) and we will get back out there again!! 🤗

I haven’t suffered with this but I’ve had other injuries. Just sending masses of sympathy your way-it’s a rotten position to be in. Not knowing when everything will be resolved is often the worst part.

Has the doctor advised you on other activities you can safely do without aggravating it or delaying your recovery? Is it ok to walk? That was what helped keep me going-it wasn’t as good as running but it helped me be in a good position when I was able to start again.

Best wished for your recovery ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Thank you, normal day to day activities are encouraged, walking only hurts when I swing my arms if I’m walking briskly hence my running being affected and I’ve changed from an over the shoulder bag to a normal one . So I’ll be content with walking at a more sedate pace . Sleep was difficult at first as it’s on my favourite side to sleep on but I’ve adapted my position.

There are worse things happening to others , but since I’ve seen the light and become a runner I just want to get out 😂🤷‍♀️. Not tried my first love of cycling but I suspect that will be the same due to the reach of the handlebars .

Thank you for listening, I sure the dammed nerve will ping back into place when it’s ready 🤷‍♀️

Trust me-I know that feeling well! I think most of us will spend a bit of time on the injury couch or not running because life doesn’t allow it. It’s so frustrating. Oldfloss has a great advice that’s helped me …

When the situation changes, when something throws us off track, we simply have to try, to take some gentle deep breaths, let the shoulders drop, and...

Acknowledge, Accept and Adapt .

We’re all around to send sympathies and support while you’re recovering, and you will recover!

I have exactly the same problem at the moment. Extremely painful! I wondered if it's to do with my running position. I'm.not sure whether running aggravates it or helps. Sorry to hear you're suffering, but glad to hear I'm not the only one! Hope it gets better soon x

Hope you start to feel better soon too. That said I woke up this morning without too much pain and managed to do a slow 5K , I did run with my arm glued straight down by my side though, not the best but it worked - it was soo good to get out. Take care x.

You too!! Its a pain in more ways than one isn't it? Sitting down is worse for me, that's when I get the pins and needles most. X

I’m sat here now massaging my thumb trying to offset the pins and needles . I’m reassured though as I’ve had hardly any pain today that it’s starting to go right . Bedtime sleep is worse for me so we shall see 🤞🏻x
