I completed the first run of Week 8 today. Honestly can't remember if it was 27 or 28 minutes of steady jogging. I just kept jogging until Laura said time was up and that I'd done well, and all that.
I'm kind of worried about completing the Couch to 5K. Can I do this on my own, without a coach - - and no music? Never mind that I would not care to listen to it at home.
And - by the way, my 65th birthday is two days off. ... oh dear ... ๐ฑ

Amazing, a very warm welcome, this is a wonderful forum for advice, inspiration and encouragement. There is a post about consolidation too for when you've graduated.
You can always listen to your own music while running and there are apps with guided runs to keep you going.
I did C25K when i was 63 and still running over four years later.
So keep running and very well done getting to week 8
Thank you for the welcome. I will definitely do a few weeks of consolidation.
Right now I think ๐ค I should focus more on slowing down and reducing intensity. If I'm more relaxed then maybe I'd be okay without the auditory props (Laura, music). - Hmmm ...
Personally I was delighted to ditch Laura once I'd completed, and if you're using the podcasts rather than the app I can quite understand the issue with the "music" (though I have a soft spot for Julie!) Now I listen to my own choice of music, spoken word podcasts or simply no audio at all. Though I do run in the countryside, often in the forest, which helps.
If you do want a voice in your ear many people enjoy the free Nike Run Club - often referred to as NRC - app.
Happy forthcoming - birthday! I'm only a baby as I was 59 when I started C25K back in May 2020.
I'm in France so the podcasts were my only option too. ๐
As for NRC, I'm not sure whether it's available in Norwegian, English, in a limited version or not at all in Norway. When I last checked the only option in France was in French with Coach Lucien, rather than the wider choice of coaches in the English-language version. That's logical and linguistically fine for me, but since I was only downloading the app to find out why everyone seemed to be raving about Coach Bennett, it was pointless my having it, so I deleted it again almost immediately!
Thanks for your input, I downloaded the app after reading it. Never mind that it was time for bed, and I only really managed to register for the one and only option. Being of course English.
This morning I found that Coach Bennet is indeed in there, with a lot of other options.
๐I started running for the first time ever in my life at 67 & I am now 71โฆ I sometimes use the NRC app, I sometimes listen to music, I sometimes run without either.
I have mostly stuck to a 5min walking warm up & cool down & the discipline of running Mon Wed Fri .. but am flexible.
Because of the aging process, I have found it increasingly necessary to add In strength & flex exercises, walking etc on my non run days.
I love finding new routes & enjoy using all my senses on a run. I mostly run very slowly especially at the beginning of a run ๐ ๐โโ๏ธ & it has kept me injury free.
I have had to restart C25K from scratch 3x due to Covid, a broken leg and last year due to a back problem (unrelated to running).
Thank you. That was really inspirational.I've made up my mind to keep the snail pace that I've learned recently, and alternate with hiking (no lack of hills around here) and use the treadmill when it's icy in winter.
Hi and very well done and a very happy birthday x I shall b starting wk 8 on Sunday x do u run the same route each time - I do and have learned the landmarks that are at 5 mins. 10 mins etc etc but yes I am a little uneasy at not having that prompting when the time comes!
Thanks ๐ Unless I find something else to listen to, I'll probably miss Laura and the music.
I just hope to get to the point where my brain stops fussing about running faster or running slower and how much time has passed now blah blah. (I used to have that blah when I took up hiking, but over time it dropped away. )
I've actually not run the same route even twice. Except of course back and forth, and turning back when I'm halfway through. It's saved me a lot of walking at the end, when I might find myself at a distance from where I need to get to.
There's also nothing stopping you repeating the final session podcast for a few weeks afterwards.
I switched from doing only "out and back" runs to adding in some circular routes in the later weeks of C25K, when I knew how far my runs would take me. (I did make a mistake once, leading to a 20 minute walk home.)
Well done! There are many options after C25k. I kept running 30 minutes gor a couple of weeks and then did a 5k on a run. I then did 2 30 minute runs and one 5k a week fir a long time. Then much later worked my way up to 10k .I like to listen to music while I run. I have created a 3 hour running playlist that I listen to.
Enjoy your running journey! Finishing C25K can be daunting at first but youโll end up liking the freedom. Just keep on running. ๐
