A new pair, and a new brand...

I have been loyal to Hoka pretty much since I started my running adventure, but I have had to return my last 2 purchases as they just don't feel right anymore. The sizing has changed (a lot) and they were uncomfortable around the ankle. As I had knee issues prior to getting Hokas I am apprehensive about the switch, but my remaining pair has not got much life left in them. Some googling tells me that Brooks Adrenaline GTS is comparable, and they are on sale...

I have got them. The insoles are the same size as my Hokas. The base has a similarly configured tread/support pattern. They feel really comfortable, maybe slightly roomier, I'm not certain, so it can't be that different.

All that's left is a road test, so I'll do a 3km test tomorrow

Do post on your experience. I’m on my 4th or 5th pair of Hokas. Generally happy, but the lining around the heel wears out. Strangely enough, my first running shoes 4 years ago were Brooks and they still look great but have no more absorbency in the soles. I take them out for short runs.

I will let you know😊

OK..... I should have stopped at 3km! They were really comfortable, but my right hip tells me I need a planned period of adjustment 😬

Am unfortunately sitting here with a bone on bone arthritic knee but just Brooks Adrenaline GTS 23 and from a support perspective - fantastic. I can move comfortably now so when am jogging again, I don’t foresee any issues.

Ooh, sorry about your knee, but thanks for the feedback on the trainers. Mine are the GTS 22s, which is probably how I got them for £75, but I'm hoping they do the job.

I have Brooks that I love, wishing you many happy miles together

Thank you!, I think part of my concern is that I don't do well with change, and if I don't force myself to try them tomorrow they will sit, unused until my Hokas fall off my feet. So I'm committing to it here. No pressure 😬

If they don’t suit for any reason, try the new ASICS Gel Nimbus. I use them for my “morning after” runs and they are beautifully forgiving, especially on trashed legs. Can’t help with the bra though, haven’t worn one for weeks!

Jell6 profile image

Paul!!! Just when you least expect...I had to go and check my post for unintended bra reference, but no, just Paul 🤣🤣

Errr 🫣. Yeah, nothing to worry about, just me come smashing through the wall as usual 🙄. One of my gadgets (probably my watch, it’s been out to get me for a while now) snipped the title to “A new pair, and a new bra”. At first I thought that meant boob job, and seeing as my own man-pillows tend to go up and down three times a year depending on training load (and respective position on the slob-scale…which looks pretty damn similar to the evolutionary chart , but with stink lines drawn in), I thought I could maybe pitch in, but unfortunately it turned out to be about shoes. So cliche. I’ve been expensively informed that most knee issues are a result of weak hips, so a bit of strength & conditioning may also help. Since a hedge dispute with my neighbour, I’ve taken my squats outside into the garden and see if I can maintain eye-contact while he’s out there pottering. It takes the boredom aspect away. Rotating shoes will also help, i.e., having a couple of pairs (I’m up to 8. I think it’s a fetish) and wearing different pairs on different days to help the cushioning recover. This will have most affect on shoes with a lot of cushioning.

"Since a hedge dispute with my neighbour, I’ve taken my squats outside into the garden and see if I can maintain eye-contact while he’s out there pottering."I take it you want him to grow higher hedges?

It is so nice to read another of your posts/replies. I've missed them, and thanks for the rotation advice, I'll have to make do with a rotation of 2. 😘

PaulS83 profile image
PaulS83 in reply to Jell6

Do that. Apparently, 2 pairs of shoes worn in rotation will by far outlast a single pair and their replacement (worn consecutively). I take that to behave like a straight-line graph where optimisation tends to infinity, and, since infinity pairs of shoes are clearly unobtainable, the optimum must then be how many you can buy and stash before your significant other finds out. I got up to 8 pairs and now I’m grounded.

Goodness, I'd be purchasing those just for the colour match with my running attire. So envious. I must admit I tried lots and lots and I mean lots and lots when I had my gait analysis done and it came down to Brooks and Hoka so they must be "similar" in ways we don't know but our feet do. I went Brooks. I brought my Brooks in 2020 but then only used them for 6 months before I had to stop running for about 18 months. They are still fab.

Happy Running ❤️ in new shoes

Thanks they are the best looking trainers I've had, but think they will take some getting used to 😬

Let us now how you get on. Not been happy with my hoka mk 3. Seem narrow to me after various rincons over last few years.

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate in reply to johnm12

I think they'll be OK. I'm going to alternate runs between these and my Hokas, doing short runs in these until I've adjusted. They are really comfortable, but by 4 km I could feel my right hip, which is something that hasn't happened before. A sports physio told me that my overpronation is much more on my left leg, so maybe this is the reason 🤔

Good luck 👍, hope they fit like a glove.

They look great! :) I've bought some Brooks too in the sale, think they were £91 for Adrenaline GTS 22. Not had chance to try them out yet as I have Achilles Tendonitis which I'm sure these shoes will help with as they have extra cushioning and support. Let us know how you get along with them, I'm sure you'll be running in yours before I am. I've another week or two to wait. Mine are slightly large but I prefer them that way to too tight. And I think your feet can swell a bit during a run too. I hope yours are great :)

All the best!

I managed to snag a pair for £75, so that was lucky! They are really comfortable, but by 4 km I could feel my right hip, which is something that hasn't happened before. A sports physio told me that my overpronation is much more on my left leg😬 I m going to do alternative runs between these and my old Hokas, I think I'll adjust eventually.

I hope your achilles settles soon.

Oh wow, that's a great price, well done. I did buy direct from brooks as they have the run happy guarantee but I doubt I will need it. Sorry to hear about your hip, it probably is just with changing from one to another. I think the adrenalines have quite a big midsole drop. I love auto predict as it changed my words to missile drop :) haha Good luck with them, I hope swapping between helps, I'm sure it will. I'm glad they are comfy :)

Thank you 😊 Auto correct has caused me so many problems. I emailed a senior manager once to complain about staffing and acuity. Told her I had just had the worst shift ever. If only that was the email she received 💩😪
