I occasionally did a fartlek run but wondered if it made any difference. This morning I realised it did. I ran 5k in 41:41, my fastest time for a 5k and while I was running I felt strong. I will be incorporating them more now!

Well done to you smokeysmoke on running 5K using the fartlek method in 41:41 minutes, I am sure that it won't be long before you can run 5K sub 40 minutes.

Hi, I did something similar this morning. Decided to do NRC First Speed Run. 8x1 minute intervals. Was a bit nervous about the speed part but actually that wasn't what it was all about. Only 35 mins but by the end I felt so much stronger both physically and mentally. Like you I shall definitely be incorporating intervals into my weekly schedule and might even do them for Park Run on Saturday. Well done on your time. I'm working on getting lower than 45 mins for 5k but have realised for me personally it's not about speed but just doing it. Happy running 🏃
