Favourite time to run?

I'm only asking because I'm a convert to the early morning run. I always ran in the afternoons or evenings. But having started going as soon as I get up I've noticed a number of benefits. I seem to have way more energy, I feel really good for the rest of the day and I'm running more as I don't have the excuse of a hard day at work to put it off. Just wondered what other people think?

Great question! In the hot weather, I find it I can get myself up and out, I really love a morning run. It’s the best feeling when you’ve already done your steps and your exercise for the day by 930am! I’m not naturally an early bird though. I really love a sunset run, as long as it’s cooled down by then.

So I vote early morning or late evening if I’m allowed two opposite votes!

Early morning for me before the day has ground me down! Sunny summer mornings are the best 🌞

🍏I am absolutely with you on this one!!! For me there is no better sensation than the early morning fresh air! I was never an Early Bird prior to C25K. However if I didn’t put my kit out the night before, roll out of bed into it & go before the gremlins woke up I would never have done it! Running brings many rewards besides fitness, better mental health and better sleep! For me it was the discovery of dawn, of sunrises and best of all that fresh early morning air that cannot be gained at any other time!

Whilst it's still early days for me, I definitely prefer first thing in the morning. I get more energy for the day ahead and it doesn't get 'postponed' if other things interfere with my day.

I love getting out at first light, walking to the sound of the dawn chorus and running super early at silly o’clock!

I have a great running spot where I can watch the sunrise. Was out at just after 4am this morning and the sky was gorgeous after I had finished.

Early bird gang!! 🤗💜🙏

It's morning for me - mainly because it fits in with other commitments but also because if i leave it until after I have finished work I am usually too tired! At this time of year I'm not early enough to catch the sunrise but when the days are shorter that's an added bonus.

I run in the morning. I'm still getting over long Covid and the running is helping to build stamina, but on running days my energy goes into that and if I waited until the end of the day I'd have insufficient gas left in the tank! 🤣

I just don't function well in the mornings - never have done, never will do - so only run then if I absolutely have to. I run when it suits me.

I very much approve of this (as a fellow non-morning person!)

Pretty much for the same reasons you state I’m an early morning runner all year round. I have a stressful job and it really sets me up for the day. I’ve tried afternoon/evenings a few times and never enjoy it as much and find it so much harder.

During the colder months when I started c25k I was in the habit of running late morning. Since it got hotter and I'm running further the habit has switched to first thing in the morning and that has been working really well. I have run a couple of times in the afternoon and it was ok, but I think I'll probably stick to first thing in the morning even when it gets cooler.

I'm definitely a morning person anyway. I have more energy so an early run is ideal. And it does give me energy and feel-good for the rest of the day. In the evening, I start to wilt!

Plus with the heat, although it starts to cool off in the evening, it's not nearly as cool - rather, not-hot - as it is in the morning when it's had all night to cool off.

I started c25k in the early days of Covid, and used the time I had been previously commuting to work to run, I found it cleared my mind before a day at my desk at home. This just continued after Covid and even now after retiring a couple of months ago I am still running early morning before my other half gets up. When I have run late afternoon I have found it much harder, probably psychological but love the day ahead after an early run.

running at ridiculous o’clock is the best way to start the day 😉
