Yesterday was my second Race For Life in Cambridge, and like last year it didn't disappoint! There was a huge crowd of really friendly people, something like 4,000 I believe, the vast majority in pink.
There was a touching moment when the MC, who has presented RFL for 20 years in Cambridge without a break was given a Colin the Caterpillar cake (?) a framed picture and a medal...he was visibly moved. Not sure why Colin the Caterpillar...We were asked to seed ourselves into runners, run/walkers and walkers, I joined the runners group. I was happy to have run all the way, and to have kept up with the pack. It's a lovely route, through the centre of Cambridge, including the iconic King's College, which has grown a wildflower meadow again at the back of the college.
I saw quite a few people I know, including my new dentist, she was running the 10K route. All too soon I was back on Jesus Green queueing up for my medal. RFL medals are never the best you will get from a race, but this one was special as it celebrates 30 years of RFL.
I'm not really a big fan of organised events, but this one is lovely, and it was great to see so many families with children taking part.
Already looking forward to next year.
