Back to it - again 😊 Week 3

Hello VRBs! Here I am once more with renewed determination to get my fitness back. My last run I did too much too soon and had an achy hip for a week. It wasn’t serious but it was a warning. That and other stuff interfering just stopped me for a while. I’m doing OK now. My aim to start with is to run in a parkrun - that way I will be able to meet other like minded people. I think I’d like to tour the different park runs in the area! We have many.

So - back again and thought I’d start at Week 3. Oh it took me back for sure and reminded me of what I can achieve. All I need to do is to keep getting out there!

I did not find the 3 minute runs difficult (I walk a lot) but I know I need to run regularly to build up my stamina and going through the program like this seems a good way to do it without straining anything. The schedule worked for me before and will do again.

I’m not going to record my runs until Week 5 Run 3, and I’ll just post occasionally on here, otherwise I’ll get boring 😂

Well, thank you! I’ve missed everyone. Then felt guilty for not running every time I looked at the page 😊

Thanks! The hardest part is getting out of the front door 😊

You will get there, remember how you feel when you get back from a run and why you are doing it in the first place Well that keeps me going anyway! 🏃

Yes, you’re right! I felt so good today. I’ve been prevaricating for weeks about starting again. A lady runner passed me while I was walking yesterday and that was it - I though “what’s stopping you , just get out there” 😂

I need to catch up with what everyone’s doing so I’ll be doing that over the coming days. I’d forgotten how good this forum is!

Thank you, Sola. I’ll certainly try not to be when I’m writing about longer distances. I see you’re coaching your neighbour. How rewarding! I’d love to find someone to coach!

Hello! I was wondering how you were! Even us stop/starters are still runners! Good luck and it's sensible to build up to longer runs of course. I need to do that too (again 😅).

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate in reply toRoxdog

Hi Roxdog! Yes, we are definitely still runners! I really want to get back to my long runs. I loved them so much, as I know you loved yours. Hopefully we’ll get there again and rediscover that joy.

Glad to hear your back on it, must feel strange dipping into c25k again.Hope everything else is going ok, i think park runs will be a good way to meet folk, one of my daughters has just started doing the watford park run, and we're all/ twin girls, doing my local 10k in a couple of weeks, hope i can keep up! 😃

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate in reply toPeter44

Hey, Peter! It does feel strange - but a means to an end. I think I need the program so I’m not tempted to try and overdo it. Even today on my first outing I was tempted to sprint the last 3 minutes! What am I like ?!? I’m doing OK. Ive had so much work done to my house, getting it how I want it! It’s like ‘Home Improvement Therapy’ 😊. A very expensive therapy though!

I’m sure you’ll be fine on the 10K, must be great to run with your daughters. I once went for a 10K run with my older son and just loved it,

Welcome back Jooles !I will be going through the program again myself soon but will start at week 1 🙂

Thanks Ian. Oh my goodness it feels so good to reconnect with my buddies 😊.

I was going to start at week one. But I found myself pressing the Week 3 button 😂. I know you have to be more careful and I hope you will be fit enough to start soon. I’ll be spending more time on the forum now so I’ll be able to follow your progress 😊

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply toJools2020

Yes, good to chat again 🙂Actually it's not so much having to be careful , infact with the walking I'm doing and the fact that the arteries are now clear my Vo2max is higher than it's ever been .

It's more a case of realising I will have also lost my resistance to injury.

And I must admit it will be a nervous restart so I will do week one at home on the treadmill, then carry on outside.

Let's both look forward to getting back to our longer runs 🙂🤞

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate in reply toInstructor57

Wow, Ian, that’s really good news about the clear arteries and great VO2 Max. Yes, injury is a worry. Best way, like you say, is take it steady. If it works for you starting on the treadmill then it can only be a Good Thing! I did try to go really slowly today and I think it’s key to do all the stretches properly.

I’m really looking forward to the longer runs but that’s going to take months. Something to work towards, but as soon as I’ve finished the program I’ll be planning my Parkrun debut! 😊

Instructor57 profile image

Haha, yes I never done a parkrun yet 🤣

Oh you’re never boring Jools…welcome back. It’s good to see you and your trademark sun visor 🌞…I was wondering how you were 😉

When I reran C25k, I started with week 1…but I’ve always been pedantic 😂 I was a lot slower the second time around…and still am…I guess we’re not getting any younger!

Remember to embrace your inner snail! 😊🐌🏃🏻‍♀️

Thanks, Lottie! I meant to start at Week 1 but my finger slipped 🤣. I embraced my inner snail today and even resisted the temptation to speed up at the end! I’m sure running makes me younger though….

Thank you! I’m very envious of your sub 30 minute 5K. I couldn’t even get close when I was at my fittest! Somewhere round 36 minutes was my best attempt. I still want do do parkruns though 😊, never done one yet.

Maisiecat1 profile image
Maisiecat1Graduate in reply toJools2020

There was only ever the 1 sub 30 mins and it nearly killed me 🤣😂. Never again as I don't enjoy fast runs. I'm now more slow steady long distance with 4 half marathons distances notched up. It's all about finding what you enjoy and keeping at it.Welcome back Jools! 🤗

How strange! I re- started C25k last week after a two year break, and while I was running I wondered if you were still out there as I hadn't seen you on the forum!- and here you are!!! Your posts were never boring!- Best of luck on your journey again.

Hi Jools, nice to see you back, I don’t often post but had noticed your absence. I’m in a similar situation, reoccurring knee problems over the last year. Not running at the moment, and gardening doesn’t help🤣. However, I have decided that C25K will be the way forward when I feel fit enough and like you Week three might be the starting point😱 we’ll see. Keep it up, you’ll get there!!

Hello John and thank you. I’ve noticed my absence, too 😊. I hope that you’ll be fit enough soon to start your return. Week 3 works well I think. No aches today. Please post when you start, I’ll look out for you! 😊

Well done you - slow but steady! It is soooo hard to not dive straight back into the long runs after injury...... and frustrating to discover just how long it takes to get back to running far. But good to see you back and ENJOY that journey. 🏃‍♀️

Thank you. I think I might have been faster than intended. I’ll record the run tomorrow just to keep an eye on my pace! It is hard to get back, but I’m excited about it now. I had to stop myself from running again today 😊🏃‍♀️
