Completed week 7 and repeated 😂 cuz I’ve had a sneaky peak at week 8 and it’s 28 mins 😳 another 3 extra which I’m scared to try incase I fail and then that will frustrate me as I failed my first 20 min run a while back. But I carnt keep avoiding it so tomorrow is the test should I go for it or repeat week 7 again 😂

Go for week 8 of course !Why would you want to keep repeating week 7 ?

What is there to be scared of ?

It's a run !

You can't fail , there is no such thing !

If you don't run 28 minutes (Which of course you will) then you will have had a practice ... What can possibly be scary about that 🙂

As I'm sure you are aware, the purpose of the program is to get you running 3x30 minutes during week 9

How do you think you will do that if you keep avoiding week 8 ?

You are more than ready!

How do I know that ?

Because you have completed week 7

Twice infact !

And that's how a progressive training program works.

Perhaps you just need to convince your head 😊

Go smash it !

P.S

Your username tells you exactly what you need to do 😁

Hi Jus-do-it2022 , given nthat you've done week 7 twice you're physically prepared for week 8, it's just a question of getting your head round it.

I'm going to suggest you forget all about the extra three minutes. No, I don't mean don't do the runs, I mean stop viewing them as a pass-fail test.

For me longer runs seem much more achievable when broken down mentally into do-able chunks. So for 28 minutes you could do 15 + 9 + 3 + 1, or 14 + 9 + 4 + 1. Basically anything that adds up, as long as each chunk is no longer than the previous one.

The point is to stop thinking that you've reached your previous limit and have to overcome some sort of barrier to do more. Instead, you're always doing something you know you can achieve.

Happy running!

there are no failed runs…just practice runs 😉

Take it easy and just go for it 🐌

I really struggled at the start of longer runs (and still do occasionally!). The think that made the biggest difference to me was to allow myself to start my runs thinking that I wasn’t sure whether I’d finish or not but I was just going to see how it went. That helped me not to worry about whether I completed the whole thing that time or not, which had the effect of making it easier to finish the run! Take the pressure off and just give it a go! Whatever happens, you’ll still have been for run.

I tell myself that my body is physically ready for the run and it absolutely doesn’t matter if I’m feeling confident or not. All I need to do is start running and see what happens. The first ten minutes I know is always horrible so I just concentrate on being patient. Usually I hit my stride a bit then, and chunking up the runs as Cmoi has described really works for me too. I like to hit a point where I’m thinking “it’s only [however many] minutes to go and you know you’ve done that before so you can do it”. It’s a great feeling to finish when you’re not sure you would. If not, you’ve still run those minutes and they’ll make you fitter and stronger for the next one.

Really good luck to you 🏃‍♀️💪❤️

I agree with everything Miss Understanding has said, i feel the same, i often go out the door and think "ill see how far i get today, doesn't matter if i don't complete the planned time today, i'll see how far i get", and inevitably i always complete my planned run because i haven't put pressure on myself, its changing your mindset from...."oh i only have 3 minutes to go"...instead of..." oh god ive got another 3 minutes to go" you will be suprised how far to you do go if you think differently. But i had, before changing my mindset, had those moments over the course of the programme and cut some runs shorter and then just repeated them again until finished. But you do need to push yourself otherwise you may get stuck in a rut and get into the habit of keep stopping the runs early.

Or, you could do neither of those two things and instead do a Week 7.5 where you do three runs of 26, then 27 and then finally 28 mins?! 🙂 You know you're physically ready for it but if your mind needs convinving then do what you need to do - there's presumably no rush after all?

A new route might make things interesting too, or a new playlist perhaps? I used all of these methods to get me where I needed to go 😊
