It was bitterly cold, windy and snowing a bit when I forced myself out yesterday afternoon. 30 minutes running, but I didn't feel euphoric like I did with the last two runs of week 8 - to be honest it felt like bloody hard work 😁 And my usual ploy of running in one direction and walking all the way back turned out to be daft because I got hot running, then freezing cold walking. It was a fair bit slower than Monday's run too, (yes, I recorded on Strava again, sorry) but given how cold it was I'm not entirely surprised.Anyway, it's done, so now I'm nearly there! Nearly at the end of C25K again anyway. And it's just as well I went out yesterday as today there's considerably more snow and a strong easterly wind. If I hadn't got out yesterday and had left it until today I think my resolve would definitely let me down. Today there is sitting by the fire, coffee and strawberry jam on toast. And yesterday's 20,000 steps is going to be more like 200 today 🤣. Here's hoping I can get out at some point tomorrow 🤞
Week 9 run done: It was bitterly cold, windy and... - Couch to 5K
Week 9 run done
Very, very well done you . Some runs just are like that..they are slower, harder work, whatever. My run on Sunday..a favourite route..easy running normally felt like a slog for the first kilometre or so...it happens.
I laughed at the too hot one minute too cold the next..I know exactly what you mean...
I'm glad you got out though...I did too yesterday. We have have snow here and it's still snowing!
You curl up, enjoy a rest.., you could pop in some yoga maybe...I've done a YWA this morning whilst watching the snow fall....do relaxing!.
Enjoy your toast and coffee and rest assured, the runs will wait until the snow eases x
Those hard run do help in the end, the ones that go well are pure joy,, 😊 a mixture of both makes us runners
Well done NettieNoo just getting out was an acheivement at which I would have baulked 😂
One one those runs! We all have them. It’s easy to feel like you’ve done something wrong or you’re not the runner that you thought you were, but off days are totally normal. You might find you look back fondly at being able to tough out such a dodgy run. I’ve got a memorable long run that was just bad from start to finish. Never warmed up. Felt heavy all the way round. Route went wrong so did the final ten minutes straight up a steep hill. The only good thing about it was it ended!! But, it did end and the next run was better.
Sometimes you can look back and realised you might have been dehydrated, or not eaten enough, or been coming down with something. Sometimes it’s just one of those days! You did it and that’s a massive achievement. Maybe an even bigger achievement than the days when it’s easy. The great thing is you know you’ve got that grit to keep going when you’re not enjoying it. That’s such a great tool to have in your kit.
If you’re not already mega proud of yourself, you really should be!
Thank you - I think I'm (sadly) at an age where sometimes I'm just plain knackered and carrying on requires a superhuman effort. The last 8 weeks I've had LOADS more energy and am generally feeling much fitter as well as happier ... but as the run time gets longer, the more it takes out of me and the more I find it just side-swipes me for a couple of days. No muscle or joint aches or pains though, so I think I'm doing OK at listening to my body. Anyway, I have an enforced extra rest day today as the snow comes up to my knees!
