Slight hiccup in my running journey

So I completed c25k last April with help from this amazing site. I've been running ever since and usually 4 times a week. Mainly 5ks but some 7/10ks. Anyway I was really enjoying my running, really looking forward to the warmer weather coming...but I have unfortunately managed to fracture my fibula this week just walking along and having missed a step...

So I'm a bit upset to be missing my running and also about the fact I can't even walk right now. I will be doing c25k again when I can. It will take a while to get back to where I was but I'm determined to enjoy the journey all over again. In the meantime I would love to hear of successful rehab stories after injury if you have any please ❤️

Hi Mango, yes you absolutely will get back to running. I'm sure you'll be getting rehab exercises for that leg in due course, but in the meantime check out a lovely young lady called Ella Beaumont. She has done a series of wheelchair workouts on YouTube (Ella's wheelchair workouts). I used them when I broke my ankle. It helped me feel like I was doing something to help myself. Best of luck!

Oh my goodness-poor you! How utterly miserable. Sending masses of sympathy!

We’ve definitely had posters return from all sorts of illness and injury-hip replacements, strokes, falls etc…

Take it slow and be guided by the experts looking after you. Your physio is now your new bestie! Most important is to be patient with yourself-hard though that can be. Personally I’ve found it easier to push through a horrible ten mile run than stop at ten minutes when I knew that was the right thing for recovery after a fall (nothing like as bad as yours). You will be back out there. It will take time but you’ll get there. I found it helpful to try and view post injury running as a new experience and not compare with how I was running before. It really made me appreciate how wonderful it is to be able to run-you’ve got that to look forward to! The challenge of coming back has made me a better and mentally tougher runner too.

You’re in good company here. It’s absolutely fine to post and have a good grump about how frustrating it is. Sometimes it’s just good to get it out and we’ll happily have a moan at how unlucky you’ve been with you!

Just know your runs are patiently waiting for you whenever you’re ready and we’re all rooting for you to have a successful and enjoyable recovery. ❤️
