Day off work today so I "treated" myself to a sort of cross country style run in my local park (which is enormous and incorporates woodland and slight hills). Happily bounded / plodded my 5k listening to very loud music (which I cannot normally do as I run at 6am in the dark), so this felt like a very happy run. At one point, a greyhound ran beside me for 10 seconds, patronisingly slowing her pace until she careened off at a rate of knots in another direction. That was another joy of the run.
I run so slowly up hills I am literally walking, but who cares? Both feet still off the ground (at certain points) so that's still running, right?
Did my first Pilates class yesterday as part of my new personal mission to strengthen my core, and I LOVED IT! I wish I had discovered sooner how helpful to your running it is to have a strong core and glutes, maybe I wouldn't have suffered so many niggles early on in my running career? Anyhoops, I know now, and am feeling fitter and stronger as a result of not just my running, but all the squats, planks, yoga and now Pilates I am bringing into my exercise regime. I implore all new runners to consider strength and flexibility training - implore! Don't make the mistake that I did! Start now!
Brrrrrr. It's flipping getting cold again! We are due a Game of Thrones Winter is Coming style week, so wrap up warm and run safe everyone.
Sorry for the ramble. :-

That sounds fab! Itβs great when it all comes together, the planets align or whatever, and we have an energising run. You notice much more i think when running, as if your senses are heightened,,which I suppose they Are! π. Run up hills slowly and with small, light steps. I learned off another runner to say to myself βsmall steps, small stepsβ, as I slowly climb the hill. By all means stop, for a breather,,on the way up. You can take in the view π
Hi Sadie, good move on the Pilates. I definitely believe that the Pilates classes Iβve taken over the last two years made a big difference when it came to breathing and avoiding back pain when I started the C25K 8 weeks ago. Imust try Yoga too.
Hello! I have been doing yoga on and off for 16 years and love it. But I have been curious about Pilates for a long time, and enjoy the focus on core strengthening. Think I will keep up both, if I can. Yoga at home, Pilates in a class. Funny though, I do find yoga a harder work out!
Good work on getting to week 8 - not long until you are a graduate! πππ
The only struggle I have is that the breathing works in the opposite way to yoga (ie the inhales and the exhales)! I am sure I will get the hang of it though. 8 years? Wow! You must have a core of steel, Elfe! x
Yes the breathing feels strange at first, but you soon get used to it. I would love to think that I have a core of steel, probably more like reinforced cardboard really! π
