not sure what the problem is!

I really enjoy running, and have now completed C25K and keep using it.

Problem is that about 1 in 8 runs I get severe leg pain. Not sure if its cramp, pulled muscle or tendon.

I try to stretch well before the run, and drink water. It's very unnerving not knowing if it's going to come on, or not. It happens only after about 6-10 minutes into the run. If I stop immediately, I am only tender and limping for a few days. Its can happen in either calf.

I think I need a correct stretch routine, maybe longer than I do. I have even nearly brought this pain on when stretching, so not great.

What's the best site to follow some expert advice?

Hi, If you are doing static stretches before a run that could be your problem.

Pre run stretches should be 'Dynamic' not 'Static' as referred to in the program guide.

healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

Static stretching before a run can cause problems with the muscles being cold. But do make sure you do them afterwards, and holding them almost to the point of discomfort.

Also, you say you drink water ? But how much ?

As a runner you will ideally need around 2.5 to 3 litres a day, even on non run days .

I'm assuming your having a non run day between runs?

thanks! I was reading about static/dynamic and only now realising so much more to learn. Water is always a challenge so will have to try harder. Yes definitely need the alternative rest days. I think I was trying too hard as well. Park run is brilliant but it is very easy to get sucked in with PBs need to calm down.

If it continues, seriously consider seeing a physio, especially if they specialise in sports injuries.

But doing the right stretches at the right time is a must:
