Day 1 of C25K!!

Been toying with starting this again as I never did get to finish it. I always have a million and one excuses not to do it and after a day of binge watching TV whilst ironing and eating all the wrong things, it got to 4.30pm and I had no excuse not to get our there and run. I sort of got my leggings and sports bra on whilst downloading the app, got my trainers on told the hubby and kids I was going to do this and did just that. I walked out and listened to the lovely Jo Wiley and I did it! It's day one and I always worry about the next time... Will there be a next time? Trying to keep the momentum going and planning ahead... wish me luck 🙏

Excellent!Well done you 😁👍

Have a look through the program guide.

Keep hydrated, keep the runs nice and slow and don't forget the after run stretches.

Most of all, enjoy!

I’ve been procrastinating for months, did the couch to 5k years ago & loved it. I’m really self conscious being out & puffing along, but realise no one cares! W1R1 today. You’ve got this!

I downloaded the C25K app when it launched in March 2016. It languished on my phone admonishing me for not using it for four years. It took a global pandemic to get me to actually start it. 🤣

My first run was the day after Mr Johnson announced lockdown. I finished the first week. But then each time I started something went wrong. I then realised that exercise and the pills I was on at the time were not a good combination. (Wasn't drinking enough either, which was a secondary problem.)

I completed the course of medication and restarted in June 2020 (with Jo Wiley), and completed the whole thing. However I got an ankle sprain right at the end of the final run, so had a month hobbling about with no running. I had to start again from scratch, and finally got up to 30 minutes in November 2020. I did my first half marathon distance in September 2021.

Hi and well done for getting out there, that's the hardest part! I totally get the excuse thing, I'm just the same 😁 but I have found that going out first thing helps as you know it's done and you can get on with your day. In the heat of last summer I was getting up at 5.30 to get it done before I melted in the sun! I graduated in August last year but this winter has been hard on me and I am no longer running 30 minutes but I'm not giving up, going out when I can and doing run/walking for about 20 minutes and I realise that any run is good, it's better than sitting on my butt!

Good luck with your c25k journey x

Well done Mamanurse. First steps to success. You’ve done the hard bit. Keep on keeping on, and visit this group whenever you need that extra boost of motivation, it’s great! Look forward to hearing how you are progressing. 😊

Good going, Mamanurse! FYI, I took 27 weeks to complete the 9-week programme (if I walked when I should be running, I repeated the run) - so don't worry!

4 years later I still can't say I love running, but if you're like me it'll make you proud that you got out there and did it. You've just done the toughest run - W1R1.

Best of luck.

PS: I now run slower than I did at the start of C25K, because I found that most training should be done in heart rate zone 2 - Google it! It's transformed my ability to run for longer and I done care how slow I am!

Me too! I only nailed running at a conversational pace where you can speak out loud in full sentences (that’s basically the same as heath zone 2 without needing tech) after graduation and I really wish I’d learnt it earlier. Glad it’s not just me who that happened to! Slow, comfortable running is just the best!
