I’ve completed run 3 of week 5 and cannot believe it! I’m 62 never run in my life (except at school doing cross country and I hated it!) I’m still in shock I ‘jogged’ 20 minutes without stopping. I kept it a secret for the first three weeks because I was sure I would fail and give up and then feel worse because people would ask how I was doing and I would have to say I’d stopped. But I haven’t! I’ve kept to a routine and stuck to it.
My dad was a marathon runner in his younger days. He has Alzheimer’s but often talks about his running. I FaceTime him literally after I’d finished and he told me how proud he was! He’s never said that before and it’ll push me into finishing the program. Thoroughly enjoying it!

Thank you for posting this and what a lovely post. Stay positive and proud and tell the world! If you need advice don't forget to ask the mentors, they have lots of helpful tips and information. Rest assured you will be doing well, there will be a community of runners near you at the same stage, many using Parkwalk/Parkrun on Saturday mornings to learn to run not knowing the brilliant C25K program exists. You might want to look up Parkrun for when you have finished week 9/3. AND the buzz just keeps on giving! Remember to enjoy each run and take in your surroundings.
Congratulations! I bet you’ve still got a massive grin still. That’s such a milestone run, and even more meaningful with the comments from your dad. Just lovely. ❤️
As Instructor57 says, keep it extra steady for week 6. Sometimes people (me included!) go off a bit fast after the excitement of week 5. Really good luck for your next run and enjoy your well earned recovery time.
Aw Suzycabs , what an amazing post. So wonderful to have something to share with your Dad and connect to the times he’s reliving.
Huge congratulations on getting the 20 minute run done. Take it easy on the next one as it’s weird for some people going back to intervals again. Keep grinning and keep celebrating your successes. We’ll be here cheering you on
I feel your pride-I have also just got to this point . I don’t have quite enough self belief to register at the local ParkRun for ‘after’ yet but I think that’s a fab idea.
Enjoy the elation- and the praise from your father-how lovely is that.
