Well a week has gone by all plans ruined for this week. No runs done and no not because of work or the weather been so under the weather with a bloody cold đ„¶, snotty nose that has affected the breathing day and night I decided I would not set myself up to fail so have not even attempted it. Just knowing how disheartening it would be to fail. Hopefully will get out and try next week and finish with a Parkrun on the Saturday. Good luck everyone, stay safe stay healthy stay running.
Always something to get in the way!: Well a... - Couch to 5K
Always something to get in the way!
Oh gosh how frustrating! But I think deciding not to run while you are actually ill and not up to it is probably the most helpful decision you could make in the medium to long term. You need to listen to your body. Feel better soon - keep running and keep smiling xxxx
There are a lot of bugs around at the moment. If youâre not well, taking time to properly recover is the best course of action. Hopefully next week be a better one for you.
When you do your first run, donât worry about âfailingâ. You might find youâre still not 100% and if you start and decide you need to stop before the official run end, thatâs a smart course of action. Iâve often checked in with myself a quarter, half and three quarters of the way through a return from illness run, just to make sure Iâm definitely fine to keep going. Really good luck to you when youâre back out there.
Thank you. thatâs the issue here I am a determined sod and I will complete it if I start it failure is not an option so will wait will go steady but will do it.
Failure isnât a word you need to be using in relation to running. Every time youâre out there is a win and taking extra recovery time is a win too. One strategy to get around being a âdetermined sodâ would be to load up a shorter run you are totally sure you can complete then extend if you feel like it. I sometimes did that when the gremlins kept striking at the start of my long runs when I was building up to 10k. Give yourself some options that donât come with a failure tag.
After youâve graduated, nike run club has some great guided runs that are thought provoking on how we measure whether a run is a success or a âfailureâ. Itâs not always about covering the time or distance you set out to do.
Really good luck for the next one and hope youâre fully recovered soon. â€ïž
After I had Covid (thanks to vaccines a rather mild version), I read up on running after illness - and was surprised how much that has been an issue even pre-pandemic. It just hadn't been on my radar! So, yes, Papillon17 , do start back carefully after you're better. It's well worth it as you are avoiding an "illness backlash"... any infection can cause complications if we start back too hard too soon...
I hear you đ I've just been prescribed antibiotics for sinusitis and am stuffy, congested and have a horrible sore throat. Haven't run since my Tim's tribute run, but hope to be back soon.
Rest up, recover, and you'll be back in your running shoes before you know it.
Wait .... the runs as you well know, wait also... Feel better and next week, enjoy them more! x
Colds are horrible, get better soon
I'm trying to shake off a cold too, there are some nasty ones around. Good decision to hold off until you feel up to it.
Try shifting your mindset; not running after illness is a training tactic so make sure you take enough time to succeed at recovery?Hope you feel better soon đ
Better safe than sorry đ
thanks all, the blockages are clearing already checking weather forecasts for the current week. Although still wondering if itâs this week or next. Breathing is getting easier and finally had a relatively good nights sleep which I donât think I have had for at least a week. So the recovery is starting however just wonât be running unless all the signs are in alignment of which some are beginning to line up. Will let you know in next post what the result was.
