Did week 9 run 1 last Friday, felt a twinge in my left flank during, but it didn't get any worse thoughout the run. Afterwards however, very sore and disrupted my sleep that night. A little better Saturday/Sunday, but decided to give it longer and did some core exercises instead.
Still aching today, just disappointed that my back seems to have let me down. I'm not overweight, I might be 51, but always been reasonably active, just not a runner. Concerned about losing running ability and fitness if I take too much time off. Frustrating as was about to graduate and look into doing a park run.

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.
You are doing the right thing easing back training.
As stated in the guide to the plan, you lose no significant condition in the first two weeks of non running. After that loss of condition is gradual.
All any of us can do after a lay off is to go out for a gentle run and see what we can comfortably manage, then use C25k or something similar to rebuild stamina and resistance to injury.
Frustrating, when so close to graduation, but in the grand scheme of things it will only be a minor glitch in your running career.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5.... and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.
Oh gosh... nearly there and you have had this setback... but take heart, it happens.
You have a pain, I am thinking from your words in your left buttock? If that is correct it could be a fairly common issue that some runners, especially new runners, experience, with the piriformis muscle.., giving back pain and sometimes leg pain too.
We are not able to give medical advice , so this is just a suggestion. Do, please, if it continues get medical advice.
I had a trapped sciatic nerve which impacted on my piriformis and I used this exercise to help, it gave great relief but I waited until all pain had gone before continuing running.
lol, no was higher up than buttock, flank is more lower back/ kidney area. Anyway, had 4 days off then ran without too much discomfort, then did the last one yesterday. So graduated now 😁. Still got a general achiness in lower back, but Im hoping it will wear off as I get used to it. Need to arrange a park run next.
