I felt sluggish yesterday after starting my Week 2 Run 1.I couldn’t really get my breath and there was a twinge in my back. However I am chuffed that I completed the run and looking forward to run 2 tomorrow.
I think I was tired after finishing work at 2 and running straight afterwards.
Im about to start week 3 and I found the first run is tough and the 3rd is so much easier, each run 1 is like a step up. Maybe run slower if your struggling to catch your breath? My podcast has me count breaths for one of the runs each week - 4 left steps in 4 left steps out. I couldn't do it week 1, was more 3 in 3 out but I slowed down and could manage the 4 then.
Everyone has those runs where nothing seems to go right, don’t get despondent, drink plenty of water every day, runners need this more than ever and it makes a difference, if you can’t get your breath slow down, this isn’t a race, you are building stamina to be able to run for 30 minutes Good luck and read the guides in the pinned posts, they explain everything you need to do to become a runner
The chances are if your struggling to get your breath your probably running too fast .Your best development will come from running at a conversational pace where you could hold a conversation without gasping for breath .
I guess you will get technical advice or can look up the toxic 10. I followed up with the little recommended video on warm up exercises rather than just the fast walk warm up and it made a big difference. Still had a tough section at 5-10 minutes but the severity diminished and I learnt to relax the upper body through this time. Drop the shoulders, relax the arms. Now 5 months on I don't get this, so it's part of the process. BUT you'll also be advised NO Pain No Pain. You must heed this and slow down.
