Well after graduation day on Friday I set out this morning on my first “solo” run with the aim to begin consolidating the 30 minute time running. Noticed a bit of discomfort in my right hamstring a few minutes in but carried on. Gradually got worse to a point where it was so painful had to stop at a little over 10 minutes in. Really frustrated at this. I think my stretching before I run is okay and maybe it’s just one of those things, but sitting here now in soreness wondering if I could have prevented this. Last thing I want is a lengthy time out.

Hamstrung!
You did the right thing in stopping.
Do you do dynamic stretching before your run? That is the best way to warm up. nhs.uk/Live-well/exercise/r...
Stretching immediately after every run, nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/h... while muscles are still warm and supple, pulls out contractions, avoiding carrying tensions into the next run and also improves recovery by improving blood flow, as recommended in the guide to the plan.
Many people do not hold their stretches for long enough or put enough effort in. Hold post run stretches for 30 seconds and make sure the pull is strong enough to be on the verge of discomfort.
Take care.
Thanks so much for the links. I do stretch both before and after running but will give these routines a go. Hopefully this soreness will go in a day or so and I can get back out there.
